DSI Rev2

For the moment for Mac, maybe in the future for Windows, just have to wait :sob:

Yeah @hommes_doutant this could be really fun! $40 is worth it I say:).

I enjoyed this vid he made awhile ago demonstrating the degrader. Changing up to 121 parameters at a time whoaā€¦anyways, I preordered:)

I tried so hard to love this synth! :frowning:
I really wanted an analog polyā€¦ But somehowā€¦ get get away from that sheen in the soundā€¦or however it can be called.
What are your experiences guys and what other analog polys ā€˜ā€˜betterā€™ā€™ options can you recommend?
Thanks!

I think you are probably referring to the sound of the Curtis filter, which most people either love or hate. Try and listen to Prophet 6 and OB-6 demos. The filters sound quite different from the Rev2 Curtis filter. Hope this helps.

Hi All!

Iā€™ve just released 110 Custom Patches for REV2 - for fans of Boards of Canada, Tycho, Tame Impala etc.

Designed using one layer only - so you can combine them or use separately in multi timbral mode.

This thread pops up just as Iā€™m realizing how much I miss my Rev2.

I feel some kind of gear shift coming on.

Those patches sound fantastic

Wow! Amazing patches, I thought I didnā€™t like Rev2 soundā€¦ You made me change my mind!

Now I wish I had a REV2!

I think the Rev2 sounds incredible.

A lot of people donā€™t like various Sequential synths, and it may be due to the presets. Iā€™ve mentioned this before, but many of their presets are designed to be bold, in your face, complex and animated. Nothing I personally would want to make music with. No subtlety, no nuance.

People that have taken time to carefully construct patches with ā€œsaneā€ gain settings, for example, make these synths sing beautifully.

Sure they can scream if thatā€™s what you want, but I think thatā€™s the only side many people see with say Rev2 and P-6 demos, presets, etc.

It took me a little while to design the types of sounds I wanted on the Rev2 even with decades of synth experience.

First impression most have with the Rev2 is ā€œDoes this filter even work?ā€
But once they work it out itā€™s actually very versatile given how forgiving it is to being modulated and wild mood swings.

Wonderful patchesā€“I just may purchase. Rev2 is the only hardware synth I own  Iā€™d like to reverse engineer some of these.

How hard is it to load these onto my prophet? Does it matter that mineā€™s only the 8-voice version?

So many people hate the DSI Curtis filter soundā€¦ I hear such a warm, comforting, familiar sound.

Love the patches and LOVE the video, sooooo good, psychedelic actually.

Thank you all!

In my opinion good patch should simply inspire you. It can be basic but has to be interesting in any wayā€¦

GirTheRobot: Itā€™s quite easy to import patches into your Prophet REV2. Just read the manual (page 65) or special instruction txt file in the downloaded patch folder. You can import patches in the 8-voice version as well  Cheers!

Your comment has already been used on the site, praise indeed.
Iā€™m not sure what there wasnā€™t to like on the Rev 2, in fact itā€™s such a bread and butter style synth, and workhorse, that it could be mistaken for being wholly unremarkable. It takes time to understand the complexity of the routing and modulation options and their relationships (which Iā€™m along way from getting after listening to these patches). Everyone complains about the filter, but it can sound lovelyā€¦ fantastic presets, will buy, currently just listening to the video while ā€˜workingā€™

I had listened a lot of sounds that were way too ā€œbrassyā€ā€¦ I was convinced that the Curtis filter would color any sounds with a characteristic I wasnā€™t found of.
You made me revise my judgement.

I have the 8-voice Rev2 and these patches work perfectly with it.

Far and away the best patches Iā€™ve heard for the Rev2. Exactly the kind of sounds I like and why I use the Rev2 (and the Pā€™08 before it) in almost everything I make. All the more impressive that every patch is a single layer. Just shows what can be done with that.

Extra kudos for including sysex files for each of the 4 user banks. So many third party patch banks donā€™t do that and force you to transfer them to a fixed bank.
