Dry / Wet question (FX pedals send/return on mixer)

Hi friends,

I always used effect pedals on 1 instrument at a time, with the outputs directly to the speaker/soundcard.

However, I am now jumping in to the mixer world with send / returns.

If I connect the send of the mixer to the pedal (e.g. a reverb or saturation) and the outputs of the pedal to the return inputs of the mixer; I can send a mixer channel through the pedal. So far so good.

What are the recommended dry/wet settings on the pedal? Am I right in stating that the general consensus is to make it 100% wet? (otherwise you would have dry signal coming in trough the mixer channel, AND through the return channel)?

Basic question, probably easy answer, but thats why I love this forum

Exactly.

For a send effect, it is normally also recommended to use the “kill dry” mode if available so that the pedal does not let any dry signal through even when it is disengaged (“dry/wet” normally sets the mix when the pedal is engaged). The main issue is that mixing the dry signal coming though the pedal back into the original signal may lead to phasing issues.

thanks for the addition! i will check if my OTO machines, strymons, and empress reverb have a kill dry function! Learning a lot from all you elektronauts, thanks again!
