I had the mk2 but wasn’t for me. So keen to hear the difference between a AB and dr-2.
I’ve never got any good drum sounds (to speak of) out of the Nord Modular. Intrigued to know what you’ve achieved with it. Have you got any audio demos ?

How’s that possible? When I start patching I get interesting and usable drum sounds almost without trying… IMO those super fast envelopes are ideal for percussive sounds…

For me it’s still the 1010music Razzmatazz.
This is probably very personal, but I think it strikes a good balance between depth and ease-of-use. For sound design, I would even say it competes with higher range drum machines, like the Analog Rytm and MachineDrum (I own both).
Even its basic sequencer forces me to be creative and focused on sound characteristics, as I’m not distracted with the bells and whistles of modern sequencers (conditional trigs, etc.)
I need to add that, as it is also a sampler, it takes advantages of the sound of the other machines I feed it with (Norand Mono, Volca Drum, M8, BlastBeats, so far). But I honestly think the RZ makes all of them shine even brighter.
The handy FM oscillators you can layer on top of the samples (or use on their own), the excellent filters, the modulation options, and the characterful effects (comb filter, cabinet distortion, resonator, etc.) make a great combination.

I´m a sucker for the Oberheim DMX drum machine, really like the Snare and Hat(well all the sounds) and the look of the machine itself is just amazing.
I of cause don´t owe one but I got the samples on the OT for any time use.
