Drum machine for hard techno

Sounds great!

Did you use any imported samples or was this all factory sounds? With no external processing?

The A4 can’t play samples.

I replied to a very old post of someone who made a TR-8S recording. Didn’t see it was that old :stuck_out_tongue:

all drums TR-8S. Some of my own samples (kick…)
a synth line from Noise Engineering’s Basimilus (love these modules, incredible stuff)
a drone from Reaktor
mixing/arrangement in bitwig (basically I recorded a jam and then I removed some parts)

Gotcha!

Thought I’d give an update…

Really enjoying the DFAM, it’s a lot of fun to jam away on. My current plan is to add another DFAM and an analog four. Route the 2 x DFAMs into the A4 for a nice little setup (delay and reverb on the DFAMs, extra drums on the A4 along with some synth lines)

Edit: thinking mk1 A4 for aesthetic reasons :smirk:

You would buy equipment for aesthetic reasons? I’ve had an Analog Keys and now own an A4 mk2 - the mk2 is the superior machine over the AK and A4 mk1, in terms of connectivity, UI and sound.

The A4 is cheaper and has a different sound from what I’ve heard. Better/superior is always subjective.

actually every drummachine is good for hard techno if you use distortion/overdrive/fuzz or just gain the f… out of your mixer!

Please elaborate, why you think A4 MK2 is better than AK
I have AK, I like it - but my impression that MK2 is just better look and screen

Fair enough on cost - but I suggest you listen to them both first before you buy. I’ve seen mk2 A4’s go for half their retail price recently, which is a crazy bargain for what you get :+1:t3:

I don’t think A4 mk2 is better, they both have issues, bugs etc! MK2 has better screen, does AK have the quick performance knob? Indiv outs? Mk2 supposed to be better sound, but hell for the price nowadays second hand I would go for A4mk1 or keys, just test it half an hour!
Or buy an old Yamaha Rmx1, Boss DR, cheap TR8 and usb to vst fx, old electribe, etc Even an old realistic drumbox with vintage Fostex 4 track, gain to hell and set bpm to at least 140
One thing: it’s better to put ‘analog’ pcm sounds/samples in higher gain then digital shit, unless you like those digital artefacts.

AK has individual outs, no quick performance macro knob, though.
And AK has a mod stick, which the A4mk2 doesn’t have :stuck_out_tongue:

In my experience, AK is actually closer to A4 mk2 than the A4 mk1, sound-wise. Connections are the same for the AK and A4 mk2, apart from the USB 2 speed improvment with the A4 mk2. It may just be my development of skills in sound design over the last few years, but the A4 mk2 just seems to sound fuller in the low end. The screen is a very big improvement though, as is the user interface. I’ve got no regrets with switching from AK to A4 mk2

Thank you, AK have individual outs. So, no point to go to MK2 in that case.

let’s get back to topic.
Tanzbar for me sounds like techno. Also Tr-8 and distortion)

Zombie thread but figured I’d show what the ole MDUW could do.

Slamming! Is this samples or synthesis?

There’s one sample I made on my nord drum, the kinda noise counter point at the beginning when it’s just the kick and that. The rest is internal MD sound.
