I’d say so long as you use at least one Greensleeves sample from the thread, you’re good. Otherwise, it’s an open challenge.
Edit: So, it took me a bit to reply because I’ve been thinking about your question a lot, since it gets to the heart of what these challenges are for.
The way I see these Drum & Bass battles is that they’re meant to provide inspiration and a deadline for people who want to finish music. Because inspiration & lack of time pressure seem to be the biggest things that keep people from completing work—or at least that’s how I read the threads.
So based on that, any additional rule has to justify its existence by doing one of 2 things: Help people finish a song, or make the playlist more listenable (which is why there’s a max track length). Any limitations beyond that would make the battles less useful as a music-making tool rather than more useful, and I think what I’m going for here is maximum usefulness.
So while some challenges may hinge around a specific limitation (e.g. “ALL Synths, NO Samples Battle”—coming in 2026!!!), for the most part these are more like prompts and jumping-off points.
TLDR: I want to give people an excuse to make music, not an excuse to not make music.
