+drive/kit sample organization system?

Was talking with a friend tonight about making TR-x0x kits. He said he always used the same structure for ROM sample position so that kits could be interchangeable across patterns, e.g., “like starting from first slot, it’s something like: two kicks, two snares, two low toms , two hi toms etc…”

and then you can go into classic mode with a pattern and switch kits.

Do any of you have a strategy like this? What is it? Thanks.

Yes.

Two types:

One that mirrors Justin’s 808/303 kit

One that is laid out like the standard labels on the MD.

The second one is to switch sample sets for a snapshot containing lots of bread and butter sequences for non-experimental jams.

But for the most part, my sample sets follow no pattern. Swapping those out are more chaotic and fun.
