+1.
Your post had me feeling like you’re not that attached to either for now.
But just to make sure: when you say “Model D”, and you put it side to side with the MicroBrute, I understand this is not the real thing, is it?
Based on what you have and how you described them, I think both can go.
Oh god no, it’s the Behringer clone desktop/modular thingy, so ~£250 not £3k
EDIT: Thanks for the replies, yes you’re right, I hardly sound ecstatic about either of them!
Sell the MB… or both
Next selling minimoog
Why you don’t want to keep that thing ?
Maybe for the same reason people dumped them years ago. Or just gave them away.
one box at a time is my rule at at the moment
I’ve been fascinated by small devices over the last couple years, so I’ve got too many. Since I play bass and guitar, I’ve been thinking about a ‘live’ setup where I essentially have 1) devices I can build a song foundation on - these are currently the MC-101, the OP-Z and the Model:Cycles, as they all have distinct sound signatures so as to not be overly tied to one. I am still lukewarm about the Ep-133 and the Seqtrak. Then 2) having a Verselab to capture those song skeletons, and have one good mic (Sontronics) to capture the rest (guitar, bass, vocals, additional keys) ‘live’ in room ambience, as additional layers. For the keys, I bought a Korg Liano that spits out whatever it is fed through USB - e.g. an IPad, so I can have all the nice pianos, eps, etc from the available apps.
I don’t know yet if the Verselab will be suitable for this, or I will have to resort to my old trusty Korg D-12 multitracker or even the Sonicware Sampletrk.
This is all a long-winded way of saying that, if my concept works, then I need to shift my old Zoom Sampletrack, my Fantom X6, my Line 6 HTX Stomp and a few other things, plus maybe the EP-133 and Seqtrak (although it may be useful as a Yamaha rompler). I’ve done many deals on Basschat so I’m used to selling/buying guitar gear successfully, but the prospect of selling and all the worries it brings I don’t look forward to, tbh.
well if it’s one in, one out, and you bought two things… I’m not great at math, but I think that means you have to sell two things. right?
Oh there’s stuff like Model:Cycles which I’m also selling, which is much more of a no brainer, Volca Drum too probably
So that’s more like one-expensive-in-one-cheap-out good job dude I like your style!
it’s an attempt to keep things in check, at least! size-wise, the devices he’s mentioned are all roughly the same, and studio space is something a lot of us struggle with.
I try to keep it monetarily flat (or in the black - selling more than buying) but I don’t always succeed. so far, 2024 is a wild success there though.
No space and no use for it at the moment. It is beautiful though and sounds moog.
If I’ve got some older stuff, awesome but I don’t want to deal with the usual eBay/Reverb/Craigslist sites, what US-based options would be good for trade-in credit or commission sales?
I pinged Vintage King to check their process and get a quote.
You could try Sweetwater’s used gear program. Not sure how much they’ll give but it’s probably pretty easy process. Perfect Circuit also has one, but I haven’t looked into it at all.
i dont know how Patchwerks operates in regards to trade-ins and commissions but i do know they do them! i know they are struggling in general right now, and i dont know if the trade-in/commission process is helpful for them or more of a struggle, could be worth asking though!
Semi on topic because I’ve had this weird idea that a syntakt could replace a dt/dn/ah2 setup for plugging a sub37 into (probably going to talk myself out of that one lol) but I went into Patchwerks the other day to try a ST out (they didn’t even have one) and boy is it sad in there these days. It looks like 1/3 of the floor space is being rented out to an interior decorator or something, barely anything in there to check out compared to the last time i dropped by, and I thought it was getting scarce back then!
patchwerks woes
yeah, they are not doing well. they had a gofundme up for a while, just checked and they ended it in July so at least that helped for a while. they up-sized really quickly because of covid sales and then also crashed hard because of the supply chain problems that continued past 2021. i seem to remember them mentioning something about the current space being much larger than they wanted but it was the only option at the time or something? would make sense considering their eastlake location was a literal shack, they jumped up like five sizes in that transition, im sure their rent is insane. i think they said a majority of their business is from online sales too, so they needed the extra space for that side. but it sounds like they made it through the worst of it and they are nearly done paying back an emergency loan they took out. here’s hoping their showroom comes back to life soon enough.
ultra offtopic: i’ve been thinking they would be the perfect hosts of a consistent EMOM, if they could partner up with a brewery i bet that would be a poppin event.
Yeah, what you’re describing sounds like they should just use the empty space to let artists play music.
