Ive got an SH101, with the tubutec mod.
I dont use the additional envelope, because its only available over midi, and I cant be bothered setting that up. Like wise the additional LFO.
I think Donner have nailed it with this one, if the sound is good and the price is right.
Sure it leans heavily in SH101 direction and thats fine, theyve done the same with the 303, but made there own version of it.
I quite like Donner as a company for some reason. I have one of their compressor pedals and its surprisingly good.
I actually found myself wishing for a ‘single envelope mode’ on the SH-4d, where the two envelopes were linked into one, for quickly dialling in basses etc.
Damn, they almost got me. If it included the keyboard controller for that introductory price, I probably would have paid for the pre-order special.
It’s not that I need a keyboard controller but it’s a lot cooler looking with it. I’ll probably want to hear some user reviews first and it’s a little unfortunate that they were unable to create a way to store and recall patches but it’s understandable that the cost would have increased proportionally.
I also ripped the demo audio if anyone wants to hear it.
I went ahead and preordered. The B1 and the L1’s demos are solid enough evidence for me to have confidence in the product. Sure it won’t have patch memory, but on a synth this simple that shouldn’t be a problem. The intro price plus the possibility of tariffs made it a relatively easy decision, I can always cancel if I need the money later.
It makes the base cost of some goods more expensive than their retail price. You know how Europe has VAT? Imagine some version of that in North America. It’s bad.
But that’s not the focus of this thread so not to derail it, just wanted to explain.
Very tricky question. Because it will depend on who you ask and how objective they are. Reminds me of this famous argument:
In 1964, Justice Potter Stewart tried to explain “hard-core” pornography, or what is obscene, by saying, “I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced… [b]ut I know it when I see it …”
Yeah, I gave them an email I rarely use. You can skip the cell phone number request by closing the popup after entering an email. The L1 comes up as ineligible for the code, which makes sense - it’s already discounted.
ugh I need to keep my eyes on the prize, I already have something I want before May that this $200 would be better put towards but damn I’m quite literally having a one-man philosophy workshop here at the moment.
