Does the Digitakt 2 feature track layering?

just saw this feature in the loopop DN2 review, but can’t find any mention of it in the DT2 manual or review. am i missing something?

No.

Are you talking about multimap? If so, digitakt doesn’t do that.

aww, that’s a shame.
thought it would be nice for randomized top layers on top of kicks, snares etc.
nothing that couldn’t be worked around with a bit of midi feedback though - at the cost of sacrificing a track of course

You know that you can manually layer 2 tracks on top of each other in the step sequencer right? They just can’t be played from the same step on the same track, different samples can be sequenced from the same step on different tracks (layered).

I’m assuming that you meant the multimap style rather than can 2 sequencer lanes play different sounds on the same step of different tracks. You don’t need any kind of midi loop to accomplish that, however if you want to trigger both tracks with a single key press then yes, you’d need some kind of loopback.

I guess the point is that if you want any kind of live playing with stacked tracks you would probably need to use a workaround, although on an external keyboard C0-G0 trigger the tracks in order (not chromatically like the device keyboard, although notes 12 and up played from a midi keyboard are chromatic advancements of the active track), so you might be able to do it from a midi keyboard just by pressing 2 keys in the range of C0-G0 at once, I have not tried that though.

the thing is if you use probability you’ll inevitably end up with only one of the layers playing, that’s why the track layering feature on DN2 looked cool and i kind of assumed DT2 would have it as well.

That’s actually a pretty legit piece of feedback - would be super useful for layering then sampling drum one-shots and loops.

Can’t you use ‘nei’ conditional trig and setup the two tracks next to each other ?
It’s been years since I messed with it .

Or layer drums , resample , reassign back to a track.
There’s a workaround if it’s just layering sounds you want , no need for endless feature requests and waiting .
