Oddly aggressive response tbh. Honestly, when you need advice on the OT later down the road, @sezare56 would have been able to help and give you great advice.
I’d certainly be looking into the slot to check for any bent pins before sending it back.

Most manufacturers do suggest you not tinker preemptively, and it’s perfectly fine to not want to on a new item from the factory, especially if the seller may have repackaged a return.
Reality is more nuanced. Elektron has sent me a volume pot to replace one that was wonky, they’ve sent me buttons to disassemble and replace, if the pins are out of alignment that sort of tweak is fairly non-controversial from a warranty standpoint. The suggestions are offered not to put you in danger but to save time and frustration from what’s generally a simpler task with a toothpick.
It’s good advice in general, just not what you feel comfortable with actioning on.
