DnB Shuffle

Hi, everybody) Could help me pls to make DnB Shuffle on digitack. Like on this How To Make Drum & Bass: The Complete Guide - EDMProd example
I’m stuck
Thanks!

Which part are you stuck with?

The shuffle. Thanks! I need to create fast shuffle of hats or snare. I’m novice)

Retrig per step with volume envelope should get you in the right direction

Thanks for the reply, I tried without luck. But maybe I do something wrong.

Hey, so retrig is indeed the way to go for that. I have some work on now, if no one else steps in till I’m done, I’ll recreate this for you on the DT later on today and will send you instructions.

PS: welcome to the forum!

Wow!!! Its amazing thanks a lot!!!

The basics of it:
K - kick
H - hat
S - snare
QS - quiet snare or rimshot, or any other percussion that fits kick, snare, hat

sample a pitched up break. Those hats are almost always sampled from a break, and getting the feel and sound of a funk drummer with a sequencer is going to take forever and still not sound like drum and bass, because literally ever other drum and bass artist in history… sampled a break.

@the_duckchild has got a point :slight_smile:

That said, let’s still use this opportunity to get to know your DT better.

So I’ve listened to the section on shuffle of the link you posted.

I’ve recreated this on my DT, doesn’t sound exactly the same due to sound selection, but it’s the right sequence.

Here it goes:

I have a Kick (pitched up) on Track 1.
I have a Snare (with a longer tail) on Track 2.
I have a closed hat on Track 6.
And I have a mid-opened hat on Track 7.

Assuming a single, 1 bar loop at 172bpm:

Track 1:
Kick on trigs 1 and 11

Track 2:
Snare on trigs 5 and 13

Track 6:
Closed HH on trigs 7 and 9

Track 7:
Mid-opened HH on trigs 8 and 10
Both trigs you press and hold
Then press RIGHT to enter the microtiming menu. I’ve offset the first open hat trig (8) by +1/384 to the right and the second one (10) by +1/192 (you can see in the the screenshot in in your link, that the second and fourth HH hits are louder (open HH) and slightly offset to the right.)

For both, track 6 & track 7 you’ll have to mess with the velocity of each trig as well to get it to sound more natural (press and hold the trig and in the TRIG menu, adjust VEL for each trig). I’ve just ramped it up here, so trig 7 at like VEL 80, trig 8 at VEL85, trig 9 at VEL90, trig 10 at VEL100.

Try this out and see if it gets you closer. You can then also resample both tracks onto a single track in the DT to free up Tracks

NOTE: Retrig wouldn’t work here because the sound you desire consists of two different hits in rapid succession. Retrig wouldn’t allow you to switch between sounds unless you pair it with an LFO modulating SAMPLE SLOT, but good luck getting that dialed in to match up exactly with a 1/16th pattern at 175bpm

NOTE2:
You can also just use one single track for your hihats using p-locks on sample slots. The way that works: let’s say you use Track 6 for this. Place trigs onto 7 8 9 10. Then press and hold trigs 8 & 10, go to the SRC Screen and use your top-right knob to select your mid/open Hihat sound. Now trigs 6 & 7 will play back your closed hihat sounds while trigs 8&10 will playback your mid/open hihat sounds on the same track. You can still offset 8&10 as described above.

Still cant make to sound like in tutorial. The timing is wrong. Maybe you have another tip?

Can you post a clip of what you’ve got so far?
