Okay folks, we’re in the final stretch!

Please send your songs to me
by the end of the weekend or so!

WOAHWOAH! How did I make the text all big? I didn’t even know you could do that. Anyway, so far we’ve got 4 entries. Let’s see if we can get that up to 8 or 9.

And please let me know if you want or need a little extra time. These are not hard and fast deadlines, we’re just having fun here.

Also, remember to send them in WAV, AIFF or FLAC format. Band Camp is apparently too fancy-shmancy to accept mp3s.

Good luck and have fun!

I plausibly have a song: samples, beats, two parts …buuuut still need to do some serious sound design.

Hope to get that done this weekend.

Also if we’ve changed song we sample from, should we post the links to it?

You don’t have to, but you can if you want.

The sample/song posts are more to inspire others and keep the thread active than to call your shot or whatever.

These Battles are all about flexibility and Getting Shit Done—so if you want to change up what you’re doing at the last minute, you don’t have to take the extra step of calling it in the thread.

I think of the sample posts mostly being for anyone who isn’t that familiar with the source material who still wants to take part, so they have a jumping-off point. Or just to talk about ways you might approach the challenge, the way @Naimys did with his Wriggler post.

I’ve made progress, but I’m gonna need an extension :raising_hand_man:

I’ve made a fun loop but I can’t take it anywhere :(.

That’s fine, hopefully it’ll give a few other folks time to add theirs.

How much time should we add?

A full blessing from the lord of the null lines would be a week. I don’t want to hold up the train though :steam_locomotive:

I had planned to submit a track, but couldn’t pull it together in time. Maybe next time.

What if you had another week? If the group’s good with it, I think we’re extending the deaibe to this coming weekend.

O.K. for 1 extra week.

Yeah it’s no problem for me… time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so…

Really looking forward to your tracks but one week extension is also ok for me. :slightly_smiling_face:

If we get that week i can also try doing something!

If I set the LUFS to -9 in Audacity using Loudness Normalization the waveform goes all the way to the brink. Is that normal? (never used LUFS before)

I tried reducing the volume and then doing the Loudness Normalization but it still ended up looking/sounding the same.

I don’t think it sounds clipped to my ears, but normally I have a bit more room than this.

Don’t worry too much, I thought my submission sounded way hot compared to stuff I normally have on rotation in my playlists…I normally hit about about -14 when I finally export, I’m sure @KingDuppy will let us know if any adjustments need to be made…

Yeah I was sort of shocked by how loud some of the entries in the last Battle were.

The waveforms for a lot of them looked massive and even clipped when I brought them into Reaper, but when I played them back, they sounded fine, and those ended up being the better-sounding ones (to my ears) when I uploaded them to BandCamp.

So, honestly, I got no idea. But I feel like it’s too late at this point to change the target lufs for the Battle since I’ve already gotten entries from like 5 people and I don’t want to ask everyone to re-render.

I’m gonna quote Saint Ricky here and say, “If it sounds good, it is good.”

(It does sound good, right?)
