The new chord mode on DN2 looks really interesting - really nicely done.
One thing I can’t work out, which I’d like to know before buying a DN2 is whether the chord shape changes to keep the notes played always within the selected scale?
So for example - if I choose a simple minor triad shape and choose C minor scale and play a C the notes in the chord would be C Eb G/0 +3 +7 - but if I then play a D - does it play a normal D minor chord (D F A - the A here is out of key) or does it play D diminished which is D F Ab?
I’m hoping it’s keeps the notes of whichever chord shape you select in key no matter which note you play - and just shifts notes where needed, such as the A to Ab in the above case. Rather than just shifting the same chord shape up and down, disregarding notes in the scale. Similar to how chord memory works on say a Polysix, or how a sampled chord acts in a sampler.
Hope that makes sense and thanks in advance! I’ll be reading the manual thoroughly tomorrow but wanted to check if anyone knows the answer to this in the meantime.
Yes, when a scale is selected, the chord-mode chords are constrained to that key. It’s a flexible and well-thought-out chord system in general.

I’m trying to get some clarification on chord mode with external MIDI devices connected to DN2 MIDI OUT
Is it not possible to use DN2 chord mode on external synths connected to DN2 MIDI OUT?
ChatGPT suggests that while a track is used as a MIDI track it is not possible, as chord mode isn’t available for MIDI tracks - but when a track is used as a synth track - the chords are output from its MIDI OUT?
Can anyone confirm this is correct?
Hacking a synth track for this ability and just turning its volume down is absolutely fine for my uses - so long as I can actually use the chord mode on external MIDI devices.
To the best of my knowledge, you cannot use chord mode on external midi devices.
You‘re confusing this with the arpeggiator, which is not available for midi tracks. Chord mode works on midi tracks just as well as on audio tracks.
To me, the question by dave_angel is a great example why there is the community rule about AI slop (Ch4tGPT / 4I slop: not here, please! ). ChatGPT‘s answer is bullshit in every respect (audio tracks sending out midi? where did it get that from?), LLMs just are not useful when looking for reliable information about factual questions.

Thanks for your response. I wasn’t aware of the AI rule. Makes sense. I was just asking as couldn’t find a clear answer on chord mode on MIDI tracks, and found comments on here to suggest it doesn’t work on MIDI tracks so thought I’d ask.
