Dissecting A4 sounds

I’ve uploaded a bunch of the sound packs from the Elektron site as well as the full complement of sounds from the Floppy Disk Pirates sound packs and am having a fabulous time taking them apart as a means for learning my way around synthesis on the A4. And in general - I’m pretty green at this. But this method is very rewarding and I’m learning a lot!

But I’m stumped on what parameters might be attributing to the behavior of one particular sound: FP Keys Clo, from the BPM sound pack. When I play a note and keep the key depressed, I’m hearing a Maj 3rd below what the track note is set to - I play a C and I hear an A flat. But when I release the note, it goes up to the set track note ©. So it’s almost like there’s a different note on and note off message or something…

I’ve stripped it down as far as my knowledge will take me at this point, so here’s what I know is not causing this: all LFOs are off, no note bend, no aftertouch, no pitch wheel stuff…

It’s only happening on OSC1; if I turn it down completely, OSC 2 behaves normally…

Probably something basic I’m guessing. Can anyone humor me as to what might be making this happen?

So much fun learning!!

There’s a fifth setting for the sub oscillator. That’s my guess. Don’t have the packs…

Nope, not that. Happens with both subs turned off.

Have you looked into both ENV pages?

And Kotare for the win!

It was the ENV2 page, withe Env2 destination B set to pitch modulation, with a depth of 12.

Thank you, Kotare!

Despite reading the manual like 5 times, I actually didn’t know there was a 2nd ENV page :astonished: . The envelopes in general are something I’ve put off on diving into. Time to get busy.

No problem.

It’s not a complicated synth, when looking into modulations that you hear in it’s voices.

It may sometimes seem as if there are a few menus to look through but really it’s pretty straightforward.

Good luck with the ENVs!

Little tip - env 2 has different destinations allowed than env 1 - you can control env1 controls and lfo1 controls! Using different env types (resetting and non resetting, or diff curves) and env settings (especially release when different env reset types) and modulating env 1 with env 2 can make for really organic patches that the filter envelope adjusts to what has just been playing. Sounds very analogue! Or an env on lfo speed is quite tasty too…

Same goes with lfo 2 - can really bring alive a patch by using, say, a 4 beat square or saw on lfo 2 to modulate lfo1’s speed and/or depth (just as an example - possibilites are endless!).

Golden Tips - we need more of those - Chears :alien:

Has anyone figured out how to loop an envelope?

Envelopes can’t be looped
