For people who own both, I’m curious which one you prefer and why.
I have both but I’m not using either of them. For now, I’m being held hostage by the M8’s sampler. ![]()
hypersynth simply because it has stereo width
Swarmer ! Much more complex in terms of sound design, since you can choose the main waveform and the swarm waveform independently (which can also be modulated by noise). The Digitone II already has polyphony, so you can create stereo width very easily (either by randomising the pan with an LFO, using unison, or linking to another track with the same engine panned to the opposite side and slightly detuned).
The M8’s hypersynth is also very nice, but much more limited in terms of sound palette. For me, a fairer comparison would be with the chord machine on the Syntakt and Model:Cycles. And in that case, the hypersynth wins hands down, mainly because you can directly define chords on it that follow and automatically transpose according to the scale.
DN2 noise mod is very nice.
M8 inverted sync for pulse width modulation (SNC>80) is very nice and the chord inversion controls are amazing. Also you can add ERR for more flavour and use shift to adjust the balance between the different notes. The swarm control is much nicer to use than the detune on DN2.
Both are great. If I could only have one it would be the M8 one just because it makes it so easy to make chord progressions.
Hypersynth all day.
