Digitone Audio In - Noob

Apologies, if this has been answered somewhere but can’t seem to find an answer. I have a M:S and want to get a D:N too. I will use the 4 midi on the D:N to control 4 tracks on the M:S. Can I send the audio from the M:S through the D:N and if so how does that work when recording to Over ridge.

Hope I’m making myself relatively clear. New to Elektron but absolutely loving it.

Yes you can… the M:S outputs can go to the Ext Inputs on the Digitone.
When you’re in Overbridge you can record the DN’s Ext inputs individually, as well as the 4 DN tracks and its Master Mix. You can also apply the DN’s chorus, reverb and delay to the M:S when it comes in.

Yeah it has inputs so you send the audio in and then you would activate the external mixer in the Master menu. Basically you can send the L and R out from the M:S into the L/R in of the DN. In the external mixer you will be able to select the inputs and will get the audio in from the M:S. Plus you can run it through the send FX of the DN as well.

In overbridge there is a channel called input that prints in stereo and records the audio inputs. I use the standalone recorder in overbridge but that input channel should be exposed in the DAW as well.

That’s pretty much it. It’s a slept on feature of the takts, I really love it.

Perfect. Thanks for your help.

Me again. From my research and understanding I can have the M:S audio out (L) to the D:N audio in (L) and my Korg Monologue audio out (mono) to the D:M audio in ®, in turn hard panning each respectively via the audio routing page. Is this correct and would I get FX on both the L and R inputs?

Rather than hard-panning, with the recent Digitone firmware you can enable Dual Mono mode, and even have different FX levels for L and R

Excellent. Thank you kindly.

This is like an alternative! But in order to combine the sound of even 2 devices, it is better to buy a mixer, since the audio input on digiton may not cover your expectations in terms of sound quality. The option of doing without a mixer, which I was counting on when purchasing a digiton, did not satisfy me in terms of sound!!! And I realized that I’m not the only one like this!

On my side, I use more and more the DN or ST or both together as an audio input connected thru overbridge to record additional equipement.

This allow me to have :

  • easy way to sync everyone without too much midi cable, one midi per device
  • easy way to record the audio of my track without too much audio cable
  • near zero humm or bzz audible, because my mixer is relatively noisy and require some attention

Quality side, I don’t see any issue, but result might vary I guess.

Yeah, I will definitely get a mixer at some stage but the options proposed above will suit me for now. Much appreciated.

I never noticed any difference … I always saw and will keep seeing the Inputs on my Elektron Digis as 100% functional and not noticeably decaying the sound or anything like that. So I’d say the dude maybe did something weird with his gain staging.

I almost always use this feature as it’s super quick to setup and having access to three great FX at your fingertips is awesome. Also the UI for it is excellent and then the MIDI tracks on top to control the external device is just the topping of the cake … you basically can stay on the digitone and just have fun.

it’s 2x mono or 1x stereo … so either 2x external devices in mono or one in stereo
