had one for many years. it can do some fun dirty stuff and combining simple things to make more complex sounds. fun for turning toms and other pitched rhythmic elements into things that really move around.
the phaser/delay/chorus type stuff can be pretty cool. it’s pretty gritty sounding… the converters are ‘crude’ at times. way different tone than a DP4. not even similar.
it can actually choke in a useful weird way. the overload bar in the display will light up not only if you are distorting the inputs but if the DSP is running out of steam. it does something strange when that happens and it’s almost like some kind of internal drop out. it keeps processing audio but in a weird way. used to happen to me a lot.
it has a shit ton of modifiers/LFOs to assign internally in very simple ways so that’s really cool and brings life to otherwise simple FX.
I’ve got the Studio Quad 4 and really like it. The reverbs really aren’t that impressive (but my Roland RSP-550 more than makes up for it, another great multieffects unit that sells for peanuts now), but the delays and modulation effects are quite interesting, and if nothing else there a really cool reverse effect I keep it for (Rewind This is the name, I think). Great little FX unit for what they sell for now.
