is there any option to control rc 500 boss effects from digitakt by using midi, can somebody provide or give me some info about how I should setup in both devices?
is there is not any good manual about digitakt version one for midi exploring the manual guide from Elektron is quite short.
You’d need to read the boss manual / midi implementation chart for most of the info
As for controlling it from digitakt , it’s likely to just be standard midi cc which you can configure .
Possibly midi clock if it can do tempo syncd delays / gating etc.
The digitakt 1 manual is good at explaining it , it’s not complex
Nothing unique in terms of how each bit of equipment functions.
Thank you.
here is one example for midi set up on RC 500 BOSS:
now imagine that I’m using cc 9 value using midi channel 9 on Boss RC
how I have to proceed on Diditakt in midi settings, midi channel and in function + src, function + fltr etc…
can we use this example as a context to review the case. @re5et are you able to give some tips?
Here are the details for example to change the drums set on the looper:
RC-500: RHYTHM VARIATION VIA MIDI
RC-500 has an Assignment menu to create special functions for the onboard controls, as well as external controller commands. Here are the basic steps to creating an Assignment on the RC-500:
- Press the MEMORY button, and turn the MEMORY/VALUE knob clockwise, until ASSIGN1 is displayed.
- Push ENTER, and turn on ASSIGN1.
- Turn the MEMORY/VALUE knob to SOURCE, and push ENTER.
- Turn the MEMORY/VALUE knob until CC# is displayed.
(These CC#'s you’ll need to remember, as you’re going to use these numbers for your external master MIDI Controller to sync the function together). - Push ENTER, turn the MEMORY/VALUE knob, change SRC MODE to TOGGLE, push ENTER
- Turn the MEMORY/VALUE knob to TARGET, push ENTER.
- Turn the MEMORY/VALUE knob to select the control you wish to engage or disengage.
For example: Turn MEMORY/VALUE till VARIATION appears. - To save this setting to the MEMORY location slot, press WRITE: EXIT+ENTER together, and then ENTER twice more to confirm and WRITE/save the custom settings.
The MIDI CC# that you’ve designated as the control ASSIGNMENT SOURCE for VARIATION, will have to be the matching CC# on your external master MIDI Controller for TX/TRANSMIT CC# to change the Rhythm Variation parameter A to B.
Please make sure that both MIDI devices are communicating on the same set MIDI TX/RX CHANNEL (MIDI TRANSMIT/RECEIVE CHANNEL).
Typically, BOSS devices are default to MIDI CHANNEL: 1.
Users should always check the MIDI Channel of both devices or all MIDI devices in the MIDI event chain.
Make a midi channel
Assign to channel 9
Setup a midi controller to cc9
Turn dial
Maybe I’m missing something ? I don’t get what’s complicated ?
This is very basic stuff detailed in the digitakt manual
I’m probably not the best person to help . I don’t have time to do a set by step explanation so I’m going to mute this thread and leave it to someone else.
I’m sure there are tutorials for basic midi setup , try YouTube . It’s the same setup on digitak2, Syntakt , digitone and many other elektron boxes , they’re basically the same.
Thank you @re5et I was sharing this question just in case someone have both devices, and is able to sync and control effects etc… to share the experience. I was looking on youtube but there is not any relevant case sharing both devices… to review RC 500 boss allows to costumize cc’s there is not an especific table for CC’s I think. I was able to change the program for example move to program 1 to 23 by using midi on Dgitakt but I’m struggling for controlling effects like scatter, shift, repeat or reverse…
