Hi everyone,
I have been struggling to properly set up my Digitakt with Logic Pro x using overbridge.
I did manage to record thanks to a technique I found on a thread somewhere here.
It works with most AU Elektron Instruments options (1xStero 9xMono, 10x stereo etc.). I basically send the individual instrument tracks to buses, and then use these buses as inputs for audio tracks to record them into audio format.
However, this doesn’t really allow me to sequence using Logic, or to edit automation etc.
Whenever I try to sequence a midi region or simply trigger sounds using my keyboard, it works but only with the track underneath the one I am trying to sequence.
Here, I’m in the 1xStereo 9xMono mode and the Inst1(stereo out) track seems to be triggering the Aux1 (kick) track, which is really weird. And it goes on like this down the chain…
Normally Aux 1 is kick, Aux 2 is snare etc…
I would also love to be able to record the Digitakt in a way that gives me midi regions in logic. But I just don’t know how do to that, nothing happens when I hit record, even though there’s signal coming through.
In addition, when I press play using logic, the sound often comes out distorted, and the tempo out of sync (just sometimes). This doesn’t happen when I press play directly on the Digitakt.
Finally, I don’t know how to record automation from my Digitakt to Logic, in a way that also lets me edit the automation afterwards.
I found this, but it only lets me draw automation if I have selected it beforehand on a specific track, I can’t actually control any automation using the Digitakt. This is quite unhandy, as I can do this only with the Inst 1 track, which as I said before, triggers the kick, and at the same time this is also the only place I can edit the automation curves for all tracks.
Oh, and these automation curves don’t affect my other tracks, meaning that I essentially can only do anything midi-related using the Inst1 track, and If I want to record automation I can only do it by directly recording the stereo out (Inst1/ “empty”) and not the individual tracks, using the technique I mentioned earlier. However, using that same “bus approach”, I can physically live record automation on the audio files using the digitakt controls.
Apologies for my approximate terminology, I’m a newbie to all of this.
How can I get this operation to run smoothly? How can I record using my Digitakt without having to go through several configuration hoops? Is it true that it’s way easier on Ableton? I just want logic to be a functional host for Overbridge, cause right now my only use for it is that I can sync it with my current project but otherwise using the standalone Overbridge version is just about the same.
Maybe my whole approach is sketchy and there’s a simple way to do all of this? When opening overbridge in logic, it says to only sequence through the DAW, so there must probably be an easier way.
Would greatly appreciate some help on this one
Thanks
