Digitakt monitoring, stereo to come or

Hi

I want to pull the trigger on a new Digitakt, tested it for an hour, and i really love it (better than my ex A4 and Rytm), really easy too use. Something is bothering me: i know the monitoring is summed mono if i hooked a synth. What are the chances this can be addressed via software update? (i’m not talking about sampling, only monitoring).

Thanx

Richard

I wouldn’t hold your breath.

That being said, I don’t think it should be a deal breaker. The Digitakt is honestly the most fun bit of kit I’ve ever owned, and that includes things like the OP1, Electribe 2 and Novation Circuit.

Maybe when the Overbridge update comes out Elektron will overhaul the monitoring features. Who knows? A cheap mixer can solve all your issues in the meantime.

Any news about stereo monitoring ?
Is there any chance it could be possible or Elektron already said there is no chance ?
For small setups, Digitakt would be a great drum machine to pair with a modular synth, but it would be far better if there is no need to add a mixer to keep the stereo signal.
Thanks !

I’d love to see this happen as well. It’s my only wish for the DT.

it’s maybe possible and on a to-do-list at Elektron apparently:

I find it strange that the Digitakt can’t monitor incoming audio in stereo even though it only supports mono sampling. It seems it would make a lot more sense to be sending the Digitone audio output into the Digitakt rather than the other way around. That way you could live sample loop from the Digitone and mangle those loops during live performances. I guess you could still achieve this with a separate mixer, but that means even more hardware and cables.

I’m not sure this would actually work anyway. DT is not set up for live looping, you’ll want the Octatrack for that.

BTW, you can monitor the inputs in Stereo when running Overbridge.

Didn’t mean looping necessarily, just sampling live and reusing a part of it in creative ways on the fly. I can’t think of a technical reason why they couldn’t just allow one to pan the audio inputs left/right.

I’m not sure why they made that decision. At first it bothered me but now I really don’t mind. The inputs being stereo or mono shouldn’t stop you trying what you’re suggesting. Monitoring in stereo is one thing but as soon as you want to play the sample back it will be in mono anyway so again I can’t see it being a big issue.

I understand why they chose to make it with mono tracks, but I agree that you should be able to bring in ext audio in stereo and pass it through the compressor.

I’d be happy even without it passing through the compressor as long as I can monitor the original stereo signal. Would be nice to route it through its effects too, of course.
