Digitakt modified with internal battery

There’s people literally walking with a ripcord plugged to their heads now, so external power banks plus the new ripcords (power up or step up, don’t remember) for my Eleks are trending I guess?

This thing, you can get only the USB C cable and the plugs:

Do you reckon this would work as a pre-made battery pack? 12V 4Ah Lithium Li-ion Rechargeable Battery Pack with BMS | eBay

Great setup for when you’re drunk and the room starts spinning.

Maybe? For $30 maybe it’s worth a try? It says it’s made with 18650 batteries so presumably it should work. I think it looks too fat to fit in the unit though … it looks like it’s 2 pairs of batteries on top of each other. My set up has one layer of batteries and there wasn’t enough room for the battery board on top of it.

What is the blue material to wrap the batteries? Heat Shrink? thank you

Im wondering: Do you charge the batteries via the normal power supply input and if the cable is connected will it use the power from the cable or still the battery?

Yes

Normal Elektron power supply to standard power port. No mods to exterior of device whatsoever.

Hi there,

long time absent of the forum, but my DTII just got mobile.

Opened up an old Thinkpad Battery I had lying around for years… took some cycles to get it going again, but now it is powering the DTII for like 8h when charged to 12,1V, even way longer when going to 12,6V. It is 3S2P, just had so solder the wires to the BMS and was good to go in under 30 mins total. The device feels pretty beefy now, with 220g extra.

I have a synth tech guy who could do this for me, and i like internal batteries very much. is it safe/wise long term?

Have my OT for ages with internal battery, as my OG DT, which I just sold. Just scroll up, @laikrodiz started this a loooong time ago.
Buy a decent precomposed battery (3S is sufficient for 3+h, 3S2P lasts way longer but weighs more) and you are good to go.

Yep, my DT had been modded years ago and still going. My OT battery died for some reason after a year of usage and all it took to fix it to initial state was to just cut the wires and take the battery out. So it’s pretty safe. Also Elektron devices have integrated safety, so if you mess up they might just turn off and act dead for 5 minutes but still turn back on later. I’d say it’s pretty robust.

Modding a DT2 already ! ! ! Guess you’re not bothered about warranties

It is much of a qol thing, don’t want to miss the DT on the go.

Edit for the brave ones: do not charge with more than 3A.

This little smd resistor died. As it is only a bridge, it was an easy fix with a piece of wire.

Only happens when not using the 2A PSU, so just to remind you not to be as foolish as me and just wait for the battery to charge, not force it with 5.1A (which it is totally capable of, but the board is not designed to handle 60+W)

Took your idea a step further and added 2xUSB-A to power small controller or synths on the go.

If one is interested, I can provide more infos and STL files to print the case.

So you bypassed the first fail safe? What will burn next time?

It’s not a been a failsafe. The 0ohm resistors are used bc of manufaction reasons. They could also have used wires but SMDs are machine placable.

The PSU part with failsafes comes behind the switch.

It’s 12V/2A, no reason to get exited

They seem to be there to isolate the power supply from the switch. Say for instance when people put more amps or volts on the DC input than the 12v 2a rating? But who does that, right?
