Digitakt modified with internal battery

I just remove mine from the internal casing of the digitakt …
Pay attention at which bms you use, mine was not well designed for charging I think

So I found this. Would this work? I suppose quality is always suspect coming from Aliexpress.
Looks like I just get three 21700 batteries and pop em in there, get a DC barrell cable and connect to the digitakts one. Wrap in some heatshrink and attach to the DT case.
Would this allow me to power another device from thje digitakts barrell input while running on internal battery?
Or is internal battery just not a great idea?

I’m starting to thing a USB-C PD battery and a birdcord PD to 12volt cable is probably easier. However it’s hard to find batteries with two of those outputs so I can run two devices.

Just a comment - I don’t know that Aliexpress itself is any more suspect than companies which buy the same products from the vendors that also sell the same products to you on Aliexpress, domestic vendors then remarketing them domestically at a markup. Choose carefully what you purchase, or pay attention to how many times purchased by other people. Or take a risk, sometimes it’s worth $13 to find out.

Edit: In regards to a battery you intend to put inside your synthesizer and forget about - it may not be worth $13 to find out.

Yeaaaaaahhh. I’m trying to find a good battery with some PD USB C out puts instead I think. Cheers

@boorch Thanks for the link to the Baseus battery. With the PD feature and wider-but-flatter design, it seems perfect for all Elektron machines.

Could you provide links for those two short USB-C male-to-male and USB-C-female-to-12V-DC-barrel cables, too, please? All the USB-C-to-DC cables with the right plug dimensions I found on AliExpress were 20V.

I just ordered this one too. It was listed on the US Bsseus website as Baseus Blade. Wouldn’t ship to Canada and couldnt find it here anywhere so have to do a border run.

This work?

It do. If your powerbank has usb-c with PD, and your usb-c cable is rated for that.
Im using one similar to that on DN rn and its working great.

If you dont want to fry ur stuff, try these adapters on things u dont care about first.

I’ve received a Digitakt that won’t power on. It had a battery mod which I have disconnected. I connected the stock PSU and found the test points on the PCB were returning the correct volts.

Any thing I can try to get it to boot or do I have a dead CPU?

Thanks in advance.

Watch me put a battery into my Digitakt in 5 minutes, thanks to all the great resources in this thread!

So … the power input to the digitakt now charges the battery, presumably ?

Yes … the charging is done through the normal plug in power for the unit

I hope you worked it out, but it’s a good reminder that the bang for the buck here is pretty low and it’s not great for a first soldering task.

Has anyone done this with just a regular USB powerbank? It seems f you get the right size one it would be way easier.

I do this, only externally, and with magnets:

I previously used a regular USB powerbank and a ripcord. For me, it sucked having three things … the DT, the USB powerbank and the headphones … with the wires getting tangled. It’s not for everybody, but it’s definitely a mod I was happy to make. My next project will be to do the same for my Blackbox.

Would something like this work instead?

Clever! Low-harm to the device and still helps keep things together.

Sure! I don’t see why it wouldn’t. I opted for 21700 batteries but I read that others have done it with 18650 batteries. Neat option with the wired connection. It would mean not having to use a battery compartment! Take a picture and share it if you end up doing it.
