Digitakt / Ipad / Mixer help

Hello all, I am looking for an answer to a question. It might be basic but I am stumped.

I would like to sync the ipad and digitakt bpm, AND run both to an external mixer. I am using the 2021 Ipad pro (no audio jack).

I’m at a bit of a loss in terms of practical connectivity . If someone could advise what to purchase that would help both sync BPM, and also let me run audio out from my ipad to a mixer I’d be very greatful. I’m a bit confused about it all, any youtube videos I find don’t quite address what i’m specifically looking to do. My ipad only has the one USB C socket, I could use a USB C LIGHTNING adaptor to connect their CLOCK/BPM with the digitakt, but that obviously leaves me with no more connectors to run ipad audio to a mixer.

It seems basic, but if anyone could explain how I could do this id be very greatful.

The DT is a class compliant audio device. You can stream the audio from the iPad into the DT and out its mains. Use an AUv3 host on the iPad to host and mix your apps and run it all from iPad. I bought a USB type B to type C cable to do this. It’s all you need.

To expand on what @d4ydream says, one USB-C cable will carry 2-way audio, and also midi. Set the Digitakt’s USB settings to Audio+MIDI, and not overbridge.

Audio from both the iPad and the Digitakt will come out the Digitakt’s output jacks and headphone jack. Audio sent into the Digitakt will show up on the iPad. It’s a really great combo.

Excellent, thanks for explaining that. Will be doing this asap. Amazed at the simplicity of the set up!

Sorry to ask a basic question, am I better off buying Audiobus to communicate with Digitakt? I can’t for the life of me make Digitakt start and stop the clock in Aum. I have read that Audiobus works a bit better for this purpose?

That’s because, bafflingly, AUM doesn’t support external MIDI clock. For hosting AUv3 devices, I’d use something like Drambo or Loopy Pro. Both do so much more but are also very capable at hosting.

Check out this instruction by @santhrax

It’s a combination of AUM and Audiobus.

Forget Audiobus, it’s dead. Get either Drambo or AUM. Those are basically the only 2 apps you will ever need for iPad. Think of Drambo as an Octatrack/mixer/Auv3 host. It’s a fully modular system so you can use it for whatever you want. AUM is more like Audiobus in that it’s a modular mixer for both internal and external audio sources + Auv3 host.

Both are incredible apps, but Drambo is just in a league of its own. Especially paired with a Digitakt. Your mind will be blown once you realise the potential of this combo.
