Hold down page and press trig 9? Unless I’m not understanding you?
I thought there were some other ways to quickly go to the first page without clicking on Page which are mentioned in the manual, but I’m not aware of…
For example, if only I could press stop twice or something similar next to the record buttons… when I want to quickly record something live from the very beginning, it irritates me to use the PAGE button to go to the very beginning every time… especially if there are a lot pages involved
I’m a little confused by the fact that the pages don’t switch automatically/following sequence position/your actions. they are static. and for a newbie like me this is unusual)
for example, if I have a pattern of 8 pages and I have page number 8 active in Grid mode, and I want to immediately start live-recording from the first Page, i press copy+clear…its ok but if I immediately want to go into editing/GRID mode for what I wrote down on page 1, I need to switch the page, because in grid mode page 8 is still active(which was active before live-recording)
I don’t know how to describe it otherwise, but there is some kind of logical flaw in this. because the pace of work is lost in such details… maybe this can be changed somehow in updates
I think it would be great if the pages followed the sequence position or it could be customized
I guess I’m not understanding, pressing stop twice should always take you to the first page of your pattern. Unless you have been holding Page and one of the lower trigs to keep the focus on those, if that’s the case make sure none of the 9-16 trigs are lit.
ssory, I asked in a confusing way and I was a little confused myself…the problem for me is that in active GRID rec mode pages are always static and they must be selected manually for the page in which the live-recording was made…but I thought that the page change would be automatic and would follow the position in the sequence.
for ex. make a live recording on page №3, stopp the recording, enter Grid mode for editing and bam, you are on the page №3 no matter which page was active before the recording
Gotcha, I understand now. No, I don’t think that’s possible the DT2, most people tend to prefer it if the sequencer stays on the page they are currently editing, and I think Elektron has just made that the default.
Correction:
If you rename the preset via transfer and that name includes lowercase, that also resets the on-screen name to ‘preset’ when loaded to a track.
If you rename the preset via transfer and that name does not include lowercase, the on-screen name is as edited when loaded to a track.
it would be great to see Page+yes randomisation in ctrlall mode for all tracks in future upgrades.
If I’m not mistaken, now randomization only affects the active channel, even in cntlall mode
NOTE: Worth noting that you need to get
- Load Kit
- Paste Pattern
In the right order. I struggled with this this afternoon, doing it from memory. It was only after repeating in this exact order that I got it right.
NOTE 2: Seems to re-allocate sample slots in the new project which suggests that both
- the pattern in the copy buffer
- the kit
Have a reference to the file (file hash). Not surprising in the case of the kit (which is designed to work across projects) but less obvious in the case of the pattern in the copy/paste buffer.
Im thinking of picking up a Digitakt II as my first groveboox, but was wondering how seamlessly a project can be sent over to Ableton to work on. Ive seen a few videos of the Ableton Move, which as you’d expect, ports projects over seamlessy with all the tracks seperated etc. If this is possible on the Digitakt II, how streamlined is this process? and how difficult or finicky is it (if at all)?
There’s no Live export on the DT2, but you do have Overbridge which allows you to record all 16 tracks (or is it still only 15?) at once into Live in real time.
Still 15 tracks not all 16 IIRC, Ableton haven’t fixed this yet.
OP, FYI there is a limitation in Live that means that only 15 of the 16 tracks presented in Live by the DT2 via Overbridge will be accessible. This is a Live thing only, doesn’t happen in other DAWs AFAIK.
I don’t think it’s a big deal in practice as most people seem to get by with just a max of 15 tracks via OB not 16.
ok, thanks, very useful info
Ah - this is actually a symptom of a larger “surprise”: If you change machines, any plock’d parameters on that track now become plocks of the new machine parameters in the same position on the screen!
Turns out this is true if you go to/from MIDI machine as well… you can end up with some “surprising” plocks if you were, for example, plocking the filter, then switched to MIDI with some CC’s enabled…
Have you been able to test this with the new firmware?
I believe you could then set the new sequence on t16 to be last:last so it will only trigger when a new pattern is selected. Making this a super cool way to transition from like pattern 3-4 with something new and resampled in between.
Hi, I’m still on v1.50. I’ll upgrade to 1.52 today & test. Although I don’t expect it to be fixed as the released notes only mention Overbridge support and led settings for 1.51/1.52. Worth a pop though
[EDIT] Issue still remains on 1.52, i.e. when the sample head hits the start or end marker, then the sample sound cuts off/stops (if the LFO dest is set to play dir, i.e. FWD.L or REV.L).
You can still get it to ping pong though, set the sample start mark to around the middle (64) and trigger the sample and immediately move the start marker back to 0 (or at least less than 64)…the sample should ping pong back and forth and will continue to do so until it hits the start or end marker. You can then use LFO rate to speed up or slow down the rate of at which the ping pong changes direction.
[EDIT EDIT] After experimenting some this more, I’ve to the conclusion that when play dir is FWD.L & LFO Dest is set to Play Mode with a dept of 1.00 then it actually just swaps between FWD & REV, instead of FWD.L and REV.L like it used to do prior to v1.50. This would explain why sample stops playing when the play head hits either start or end points.
Got a DT2 since yesterday!! Prepped my sample packs already in advance, and currently in a project of making a load of drum kits of my favourite drum machines.
Curious what people here would tip as best practice for gain staging? Would be nice to go about levelling Presets and Kits with some proper intent, so I don’t have to go back later and change all of that.
My current thoughts:
-
I’m using Factory example patterns as the ballpark for the right loudness. They’re pretty loud, correct? My own kits are coming in a bit softer. Might need to push the levels of my imported samples a bit to match the factory example patterns.
-
Trying to keep Kits’ levels at 110 (edit: I mean “Pattern Volume”) as standard practice, so I have some leeway in the future when matching different kits (edit: Patterns) into a live sets.
-
I still have Track Levels at the default (100/127). But I’m wondering if I should set them to 127 so there’s less external gain needed from my mixer or Front of House that introduce additional external noise. I think I remember you mentioning something like this in one of your videos, @slawa_soloma ?

Any other tips? Curious what are best practices for people here and for what reasons!
I got it working on Digitakt 2. Had to make sure the BPM mult was set above 2 (which is what it defaults on) and make sure mode was set to Trig, it’s how they have it in the video but they don’t show them specifically setting those settings. I also had to move the depth up more than where he had it had but other than that it seems to be working how it’s shown in the video. Bounces back from the start point or if I move the start point around.
One tip I saw was that you can go into the sampling recorder screen and set it to record the output of the DT2. Then you can use the level meters in that screen to see the overall output of the DT2.
