I’m not sure if this is a bug or I’m mis-understanding something but I’ve noticed an issue when cueing a new song at the end of the current one. Here’s what’s happening
On the last row of my current song, I’ll use the “SONG” button and select the next song that I want to play. At the end of the row, I want the next song to start playing at the first row. However, what I’ve noticed is the progress bar that appears at the top of the pattern info immediately changes to the new song (while the last row from the old pattern continues to play). Then when that row finishes, the next song starts playing on row 2.
So lets say I’m transitioning from SONG A with 5 rows to SONG B with 6 rows the issues I’m seeing would look like this.
Row 5/5 on SONG A starts
Cue SONG B
SONG A is still playing but progress bar now shows “SONG B (1/6)”
Row 5/5 finishes and the song immediately jumps to “SONG B (2/6)”
Has anyone else noticed this? I imagine I could just duplicate Row 1 of all of my songs as a workaround but I’d like to know if there’s an easier fix.
I was exploring this a bit more and it seems like songs don’t actually cue at all. If you load a song it loads instantly so I think the reason for this bug is the pattern cueing takes over to switch at the end of the row, but technically a new row gets loaded as soon as you switch songs.
So I guess I would just make a feature request to implement proper cueing for songs just like there are for patterns.
Another solution would be to give me a new song end option like others on this forum have suggested here instead of “stop” or “loop” we could have the ability to “jump to song XX”
I also noticed this issue when I started using the Digitakt II. The workaround I’m using is to put a duplicated first row on songs B, C, D… When cueing, this row will serve as a dummy to avoid skipping the first row of your next SONG.
As it has been said, when cueing songs, the current PTN and SONG are not kept in sync. Switching song will cue the next PTN, but the SONG row immediately switch to the next one. Then it gets super confusing…
Would be nice to have another cue mode for proper SONG cueing: wait for the current row to end, then change the PTN and SONG in sync!
Yeah I ended up duplicating row 1, which mostly works. Sometimes it’s a bit wonky if you interrupt the transition in some way. For instance, stopping playback before switching still switches the song, so there’s no real way to cancel the switch like you can with a pattern change. Elektron, if you’re listening, I think proper song cuing would still be appreciated, but this workaround is good enough for now.
