Digitakt II slim (pure fantasy thread)

Not quite what you dreamed of, but seems relevant…

Great idea.

I hope that one day something like this will be available in powder-coated metal. 3D printed stuff is too ugly for me.

I’ve broken one mini-jack on music gear/modular vs losing count how many quarter inch jacks/cables I’ve broken with guitars and amps.

I put dual USB one for data/audio one for power as this has solved USB noise for me on other synths that do this.

The OP-Z encoders are my favorite from any synth I’ve owned, easily able to spin all four at a time which is very difficult to do with traditional encoders - I’d settle for super low profile encoders too though if there’s no space or patent issues.

Agree on the LED encoders.

Those are nice, but they don’t solve the encoders issue and still requiring a deck saver, you also lose the robust metal build.

Forgive my ignorance, would those slim encoders support the push/click functionality of the present encoders ?

«Don’t scare me like that» (Bloodbourne NPC), on a night like this I took the thread title for a product announcement

They did not on the OP-Z, but it’s probably possible? Not like this would ever get made lol.

Maybe some low profile regular knobs could be used to help reduce the thickness instead of totally flat spinners?

How about an OP-Z Slim?

Surely that’d just be a piece of PCB to be any slimmer!?

Or a drawing of an OP-Z on a piece of paper

Yeah, fair enough! I just love the slim, inclined form.

Would be fairly straightforward to make a metal version. Wonder if you could even fit a battery inside.

Don’t let the 3D print fool you, printing has come a long long way when it comes to infill structures and overall strength. I can comfortably stand on these cases.

To the question of a battery, the intent with this case was to remove as much wasted space as I could so there is no room for a battery. However, I’ve made the BattCave for these purposes, which I will hopefully be releasing soon.

I too would enjoy a more polyend/ teenage engineering slimmer style - especially the pads of the polyend devices. I don’t like the hard ones, and I realize I’m in the minority, but I also don’t like the gaps around them. I feel like it’s too easy for debris to get inside.

The construction and form factors of Elektron devices are already great, but slimming them would be an improvement.

I done the aul lego tyre mod. it’s actually a very enjoyable encoder experience. was cheap too (like 4 quid on ebay) :upside_down_face:

That’s why I really wanted for traveling and how I ended up buying an opz and then OPXY. The opxy is as close as a slim digitakt 2 as possible right now, and more powerful in some ways. (And less so in others)

I don’t know it seems like there’s still a lot of wasted space you could cut down to make it smaller.

Not for my sausagefingers…!

Could we keep it the way it is so that they add a bloody built in battery to it?

That gives my finger cramp just looking at it.
