So, had a weird dream yesterday, and I was putting some gear in my bag to head out - and the thing I put in my bag was a DTII, but super slim and with flat OP-Z style encoders. Yes, I spend too much time thinking about samplers thanks to my side projects no doubt!
But this was the closest thing I could mock-up, just throwing it out there as it’s something I hope Elektron might make one day, keep the DT II pretty much as it is, move to mini-jacks for all the audio in/out midi in/out and go USB-C for power.
Yes, physically thinner which is why I said a move to mini jacks for audio/midi in/out also.
Currently, putting a DT in a bag needs a deck saver to protect the knobs which means a little extra thickness (most of the thickness of the DT is from the use of the larger 5 pin din midi and audio jacks).
I’m on the same page with encoders. Would really loved a tiny bump on one side like J on keyboards. Just for a grip and understand the level when it’s 0 - 100.
Followed with more wishes,
Encoders with LED level
Shaped around the encoder; (maybe not even 360 but 270)
Buttons can def go membrane keys. Mech keys rule but for the sake of slimness; i’m ok to have something lesser. Gameboy buttons are super fun to push maybe square+windowed version of them?
Apart from the encoders the lower body could be considerably reduced, it event fits an extra battery when doing the hack for portability. So at least 3-5cm extra could be reduced, and maybe introduce side ventilation with openings in the new body. Wish I have time to 3d design and print something like that
It’s mostly the encoders that make it less packable without a decksaver on (which adds a little extra thickness as the Elektron decksavers are not form fitting like the ones for the OP-1 / OP-XY as examples).
Weird that every suggestion here makes me vomit in my mouth a bit…
Why would you want those horrible tiny mini jack cables that break when you touch them, usb C power with the clunky adapters and or usb noise, those encoders
LED encoders!?! Just look at the screen for info. I love the pixelated screen and the images Elektron invented for it, its art
