Digitakt II Feature Requests

When performing a live set on the DTII, we need to press two buttons to select that track silently (e.g., TRK+7) so we can change some parameters.

It would be great to select that track silently without needing to use the TRK+ combo.

So I was thinking, what if, when in PERFORM mode, selecting a track happens silently by default? That is, no need to hold TRK.

This would be more efficient and also eliminate accidental key presses of neighbouring KB or PTN buttons, which happens to me often.

So in regular mode, selecting a track plays the sample but in PERFORM mode, it happens silently.

What about if you want to do some live triggering over the sequence?.

That’s not something I personally do but you could always get out of PEFORM mode to do live triggering over the sequence.

I fully back this idea. Though I would much rather a setting somewhere that could turn auto trigger off. Or better yet toggle between the options “always off, always on, performance mode only, regular mode only”. That should please most people I reckon.

Great idea! I like even better than mine.

not sure if anyone’s suggested it yet, but maybe take a page outta the MPC1000 and throw a master EQ alongside the compressor. nothing super intricate, just a four-band with adjustable Q’s. if they wanted to feel bold, they could even have routing options like the compressor has now so that you could take certain sounds out that you wouldn’t want to be affected by the EQ curve.

Add checkbox in settings to allow delay feedback above 100%. High feedback and low delay time is very dangerous for inexperienced users or for live performances. This parameter should forbid high feedback (>100) by default to protect your ears and if you turn it off you take responsibility for it.

digitakt II arrived yesterday, amazing box.

things that I’d like to see that immediately jump out functionality wise:

  • sample zoom in the SRC page.
  • FUNC + start, loop, end to auto find zero crossings
  • optional low and high shelf on the EQ, or a couple of bands, one is a bit too economical.
  • stereo width per channel (as mentioned above)

I would think all of the above are totally possible, they are simple features.

effect feature request would be:

  • update the chorus to have doubler/ensemble, modes, more stereo fx possibilities
  • fill the last FX space with something fun like a phaser or granular effect, I imagine that will happen in some form in the future.

edit:

  • track layer from DNII
  • comb filter + and - from DNII

FR for Repitch mode - repitch is great when I want DT to behave like a DJ deck, however the shortest interval being 1 bar makes it a bit limiting

suggestion:

  1. allow shorter loop lengths, i.e. quarter note
  2. allow uneven loop lengths
  3. allow the user to set tempo in BPM, i.e. when scrolling past the 8 bar setting, that way shorter one shot samples can repitch with tempo changes. (in this mode (3) the start/end parameters could behave like in one shot mode)

Workaround atm is to resample all short samples to 1 bar length or longer, but as you could imagine it’s not very efficient.

btw, added the digitakt 2 to the live rig, and played with it Saturday night - a few post gig suggestion

  1. would be great to have the ability to display custom track name or simply sample file name when selecting a track. It doesn’t make sense to have to create a preset for every track in a pattern just to be able to more easily see what the track contains.

  2. please differentiate the button illumination color between track select and pattern select, the two actions are so similar it’s hard to build up muscle memory, now imagine this in a dark club. i think those two buttons should have had different shape and color to begin with, and song button, quite possibly a candidate for the button many users will only touch by mistake, could have easily been at some other place rather than the most accessible one.

  3. Ability to rename track names in Mixer, and/or even a mode where all 16 are visible on a single page. Could be done if the bars, that anyhow don’t have a scale, are removed.

  4. adjustable reverb stereo width

  5. Allow the second filter to be configured as a hi/low shelf EQ

Let me start by saying I love the Dt2 overall. It has checked so many boxes from the wishlist I was hoping for from the Dt1 and gifted a bunch of things I didn’t even know I wanted (comb filter). However, I’ve got to say there are a couple of things I’d love to see worked out.

  1. When chopping a sample the scrolling when I change the start and end points is really difficult to deal with (and harder to find a spot where the loop won’t click). I thought this was just a new way of working I was going to have to adjust to and it would be fine but so far that is not the case. For example, I typically dial in the start point and roughly eye where the end point should be, but as I start to move the end point the waveform changes shape so I can’t accurately track where I had roughly marked the end point. I end up listening to the sample a lot more just to find the spot I had already figured out. Also, my strategy with the Dt1 had been to make rough chops as I went along, trimming away unneeded audio before fine tuning the start and end point. I found this much easier as finely tuning a smaller piece of audio was just easier and quicker. Not being able to cut/delete parts of the waveform as I go along is making the process of editing a sample much more tedious, time consuming, and less accurate. Does anyone else have this issue?
  2. There are a lot more clicks when sequencing a sound. I am finding that when using one sound in keyboard mode on a track often there are clicks between the two notes. I end up spending a lot of time adjust the attack, decay, and note length in order to get rid of the clicks between notes.

Honestly, I would love these issues to just revert to how the Dt1 operated. It was so easy and intuitive to chop samples on the Dt1 that it would be great if there was an option to edit in a sort of ‘legacy mode’ or something. Also, a function where notes in a sequence did not click by default would be incredibly helpful.

Not exactly what you asked for, but you know you can hold down ‘SRC’ to see sample file name (prefixed with machine name) ?

I only know the. DT2, and I’m not fully understanding what was lost here ?

Basically, you could delete unwanted portions of a sample before saving it. It seems like a small thing but cutting out the unwanted portions of a sample made it much easier to finely tune the the start and end points because the overall waveform was smaller and more manageable. Especially now with double the sample time and the glitchy way the sample sample moves visually when adjusting start and end points it would be very advantageous to be working with a smaller sample. Sorry, I am terrible at explaining this sort of thing, but hopefully that makes sense.

The DT2 needs a proper slicing update that takes the OT’s slicing to 2024 with an updated UX.
Not to say the OT’s slicing is bad (inb4) but it could probably be even better when poured into the Digi’s UX. I see threads on this omission pop up a lot and it would just make life more enjoyable

I mean, that’s basically it, just imagine an option to simply have the “machine: filename” pop up when selecting a track, without having to hold SRC.

Please Elektron, add the performance macros (PB, MW, AT, BC) available for audio tracks for MIDI tracks as well. Or add a MIDI CC that lets us address these macros that are already quickly available on src page of a MIDI track. Sure, I can set these up as values on the filter page, but this would be a lot quicker, plus setting these up as values doesn’t work for aftertouch, which doesn’t have a fixed CC in MIDI protocol like MW and BC. And if you gave us performance macros for MIDI tracks with up to 4 values each, we could do a lot more with just one knob.

Any update would be welcome, but I hope for polyphony and proper stretching (the current version I cannot use, it sound too bad). Anything else will be appreciated.

i don’t know if i said it in this thread already, but if they don’t wanna give us full polyphony, please at least give us track layering!

Organise Samples in RAM Drive to the banks.
Really cool to have banks, but with a project full of samples, i need to unload, and load them from the +Drive back to the project to the corresponding Bank and than need to reassign it to all patterns in the project…
