Not a great help, but further info:
On my Pixel 7a I can only get audio in from my Elektrons (DT1, DN2, A4mk2) i.e. I can record their audio out to the phone, but cannot playback to them from the phone as the phone continually jumps back and forth between the USB and onboard speaker playback, and sometimes even has a full OS crash on the phone.
I’m pretty sure this is a Google issue, as my wife’s Samsung plays and records from the class compliant Elektrons without issue.
I am also using the cheap usb-c converter, since USB audio does not work for me with either a Pixel 6a, Pixel 7 or Pixel 9a. I have the same issue that @styxington describes. Funnily enough, it works with an old Pixel 3a with an old version of Android.
Yea unfortunately I believe the issue is an android OS issue.
Filed a big report with Google but I’m fully aware that it’s essentially pointless and will likely not be fixed any time soon.
What’s crazy is - it sounds like this is a problem for a lot of USB headphones too, but the problem’s been reported on Google support forums as far back as 2023 from what I can see
I’ll try the USB to jack dongle.
The weirdest part is (as others have found) I can record FROM device to phone, just not from phone to device… So adding a usb-jack converter only for phone->device direction feels even weirder haha!
Also filed a detailed report to google, but I am not holding my breath either. I think they are too busy adding AI features to care about the USB audio stack maintenance
