Digitakt has no drivers

OS: Windows 10
Software: Latest Electron Transfer 1.8
Firmware: Latest 1.51A

I really do not understand why this is giving me so much trouble. I just got a Digitakt, and to try it out I wanted to upload some of my samples but no. It is impossible.

I installed the the latest “Elektron Transfer 1.8” but it doesn’t show the device. I looked into the devices on my computer and it shows “Eletron Digitakt” with missing drivers (???) but drivers are nowhere to be found.

I reinstalled everything, restarted, nope still no drivers. Troubleshooting tells me drivers are missing yeah cool. I tried turning the device on and off a few times, tried different cables, USB ports nothing helps.

This feels like it’s 1998, a really really bad experience especially given the fact that nothing of my gear gives that much trouble, not a Microfreak, not a Korg DJ controller, not a Volca Sample, not even the 100€ Behringer plastic synth, everything works with the software without trouble out of the box but a 900€ high quality device gives me a heck of a fight and still refuses to cooperate for such a simple task as uploading samples…

Is the Digitakt set to Overbridge mode, in Settings / system / usb config settings on the Device?
This should be turned off for Transfer iirc.
Other than that, you might want to check that the midi in and out is set to USB or USB+Midi in Midi settings on the digitakt.
Is your PC intel cpu i5 with 4Gb ram as per expected specs?
Tranfer works absolutley perfectly for 99% of Elektronauts out the box unless there is a PC issue or a missed setting.
BTW Digitakt or Digitakt 2?

Check this.

If it’s not this, open up a support ticket on the Support section of elektron.se

Also, DT is class compliant, shouldn’t need drivers for the computer to see it.

Did you try power cycling your computer? Just leave the digitakt plugged into the usb port, close your open programs, then power the computer off, wait 30 seconds and power back on. I think something similar happened to me a long time ago, also on windows 10, also digitakt not detected by transfer, and I tried everything except turning off the computer which was what ultimately seemed to work. After I powered it back on transfer detected the digitakt and despite my frustration, I’m pretty sure that the problem in my case was windows 10 or maybe even my computer.

As mentioned, digitakt is a class compliant device so it brings it’s own drivers making it “plug and play”, it’s also possible your computer is set with very high security and may require confirmation to allow the drivers to download, but I would just try turning the PC off, then back on, then open the transfer app and check for the results.

Also, let us know if it’s original digitakt or digitakt 2. If it’s the original digitakt maybe myself or someone else can upload the previous version of transfer which you can try in the event that none of this other stuff works. Let us know what happens, good luck!

He said firmware is 1.51A means it’s a DT.

Indeed he did, here’s a slightly older version of transfer from my computer if OP needs to try it.

Yes it was the Overbridge mode that the previous owner had on. Very silly to have it not respond at all to Transfer when it’s in Overbridge mode.

Thanks but with “normal” USB mode it’s working with the last Transfer software

I would pay good money for a self-driving Digitakt

AFAIR Transfer works in Overbridge mode.

Try reinstalling Transfer app. First delete it, then reinstall. I’ve experienced some bugs with Transfer when newer version had been installed on top of the older one. You can check it in Win10 Device manager: if you have more then one instance of Digitakt there, you have to delete them all - that is the artifact of incorrect software (re)installation.

Well there was only one Digitakt device in there and it shows no drivers available. It appears and disappears when you plug/unplug the USB.

So the device manager is still saying that there’s no drivers for the Digitakt even if you take it out of over bridge mode and everything works?

make sure your computer’s admin security settings are not interfering with downloading the drivers.

But it shouldn’t be downloading drivers.

DT is class compliant.

The drivers should already be on the operating system, there are no Digitakt specific drivers to download.

If the device manager is saying there’s no driver for the DT, that means it’s almost definitely a windows issue, as the driver should be there already.

Unless it’s only the audio that’s class compliant and the midi still needs driver’s…?

You’re probably right, it should work with the generic drivers so I guess if the drivers aren’t present in windows then maybe it’s getting a device ID but unable to recognize digitakt as an audio interface.

I was just thinking that my windows 10 PC used to make me authorize connections to certain USB devices because the security settings were too high. Sometimes it would act like this where it seemed like there was no driver present.

Never with digitakt however.

From having a peek at the manual, USB AUDIO/MIDI is the configuration you would want the Digitone or Digitakt set to if you want class-compliance. Other modes would most likely result in Windows complaining.

As long as everything works, there’s no reason to heed to warnings or errors in device manager.

I don’t like change.

No problem discussed here has a solution or end, it’s just the beginning of a new problem.
