Hey! So I was looking for a multi effects unit I can perform with and found the Pioneer RMX 500. It has got several effects I can apply in real time. Does anyone know a better device to do this job? Will the Pioneer be useful live? I’d love to try in store first but unfortunately there’s not that possibility. Cheers!
Hello, I don’t know this machine but any DJ effect should work great with digitakt.
I saw some videos of @DaveMech using a whole DJ mixer with awsome integrated FX built in. Don’t remember the model but was an Allen&Heat.
The advantage of a DJ mixer is the routing, the EQ and the fact you can build your setup around it.

Xone db4. Super flexible routing , looper per channel and fx section per channel. Oh and input matrix.

Hi ! I have the pioneer RMX 500 as master FX unit for my whole Live Setup and its great . The FX are club ready and work intuitive for adding variation to a pattern. The pros are that it can be powered via usb an the BPM Counter is rock-solid. The cons are that it only has RCA connectors and some FX add up on volume if used exessive

To be fair, it’s quite the difference in price and footprint from something like RMX 500. But it sure looks sweet…

I’m really stuck between to Xone 96 and DB4 . Leaning towards the DB4 re the loopers and fx , could do that via the 96 with more outboard though ??
Will be used for a mix of hardware and ableton , mainly in my studio , occasional live gigs and parties
I know you’ve used both and would be interested in your thoughts

Bit off topic here.
It’s a very tough question to answer in a few lines of text. Both mixers are as far apart as they can be in terms of how they operate and their capabilities. I guess it boils down to: do you prefer analog summing (it is great)? Do you want super flexible routing within the mixer, input matrix, fx and looper per channel etc? Also: db4 is 10 years old now. I think it is still unique and there’s nothing like it (v10 tries but weights 13kg and the fx are very meh, no loopers).
If you can’t decide, it’s best to write down a pros and cons list for each mixer and hold the result next to your wishes.

I use a Pioneer EFX-500. It’s old, but it takes RCA or 1/4" inputs and outputs, has midi in out/thru, so it can be BPM synced (or you can choose Auto or Tap Tempo). There is a latch switch for each section to activate it temporarily, r you can latch it so it’s always on. You can select what frequencies you want to effect with a simple Low-Mid-High button. Each FX section has it’s own Depth controls, and there is a wet/dry Mix control on the headphone out (which i use sometimes to run the signal to anther fx unit and stack em). If you can find somebody selling a used one, it’s worth picking up (IMO).
BEAT FX: Delay, Echo, Pan, Flanger, Transform
SOUND FX: Jet, Zip, Wah, Ring, Fuzz
EQ FX: Isolator

I never heard of that one! The specs sound amazing, I wonder why they didn’t keep all of them like MIDI and 1/4’’ inputs and outputs… I will keep an eye out for that unit, thank you very much!!

I just looked an you can get the EFX-500 for under $200 on ebay. Good luck with whatever unit you choose.
