Digitakt as a DJ MIDI controller

Is there a way to use the Digitakt and map it’s buttons and knobs to control a DJ software, like Traktor?

Nope.

Is that something that can be fixed in future firmware or is the unit physically not capable?

No idea why you would want to do that, but with Traktor you can do your own mapping with digitakts midi tracks. Digitakts encoders do sent midi cc messages which you can set differently per midi track.

There’s tonnes of better and cheap options to control dj software though. The encoders aren’t useful for dj like movements. Midi Fighter + twister is way more useful imho.

you can send out midi signal
so yes… it is possible

I would use a midi cable for it, but it might be possible with a usb cable

so lend out midi signals
and connect this to the traktor midi mapping

maybe there are still problems with digitakt midi out… i dont know

So, do all the knobs and buttons send CC messages, or only the 9-16 midi buttons?

tracks 9-16 control midi so you can theoretically control any program that can accept midi.

The issue is that while the DT will send MIDI for some of the controls - it isn’t set up to do it as just a controller. For example, which CCs the encoders send will depend on which page (SRC / FLTR / AMP / etc…) you are on. Ditto for the trigs. Other things don’t send CCs or Notes at all (arrow keys). AND there’s no provision to have them send MIDI suppressing their local function.

So, sure, you could map some of these things to Serrato - but you can’t really separate them from their function on the Digitakt. In the end, is only 8 encoders and 16 triggers you could awkwardly map. You’d be better off just adding a cheap second MIDI controller.

One would not attempt to use the digitakt audio channels as a control which would require the extensive hassle you describe.

One would simple set the tracks 9-16 to the right midi channel and then assign cc to the encoders via the midi amp page and control via the midi filter page.

Despite its bugs on that end the digitakt is meant to be used to control/sequence midi.
