Digitakt and OP-1 Direct connect

Hi All,
Is it possible to connect the Digitakt directly to the OP-1 with USB cable and and adapter to USB mini.
Or with simple midi to USB cable?

I have tried but couldn’t send MIDI to the OP-1.

Thanks

Not possible, need a USB midi host. Neither are hosts.

There’s some standalone midi interfaces that will let you do it though, not sure of their names but shouldn’t be hard to find on google

I don’t think this is possible. The Digitakt isn’t a USB host on its own, so you need a computer/DAW in the middle or a standalone device like an iConnect that can act as a host to relay.

Thanks i will have a look

This is the cheapest midi usb host box: http://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/usb-midi-converter?keyword=usb%20midi

Connect the OP-1 usb cable to it and midi cables from the digitakt.

Do you think the iConnect MIDI 1 will do the job?

Yep! Definitely. Iconnect is good stuff

Thanks,
it looks more portable

has anyone tried sequencing an iPad with the USB-MIDI out from DT? I think that should work right?

Don’t think so, if the iconnect midi 2+ doesn’t have host mode I would be surprised if that does. Maybe email iconnect before you order, they are very responsive.

Yep the iconnectivity site makes no claims of it being capable of host mode

Cheapest solution I know of would be a raspberry pi, no need for any DIN MIDI, just plug both in to the built in USB hub and connect in software, needs a bit of setting up though, possibly not as fast as bespoke devices

A good alternative and not far off price wise would be the axoloti, but really needs you to be interested in the tweaking possibilities as it’s mainly an audio modular processing environment … however, without a USB hub (you’d need to add your own, should work?) or you’d need a basic 1x1 DIN to USB midi interface … but as a USB to DIN converter it’s all there, save loading a patch on a micro SD card (not included) … that way for similar money you can have a stereo in stereo out fx-processor/generator tuned to taste

doesn’t sound like either of these are the right solution for the OP tbh, but worth throwing these in the mix for browsers

I thought the iConnectivity iConnect MIDI 1 would be a simple version of this one that clearly can do it.

Sadly, from the Axoloti web site (emphasis mine):

Full size USB host port, supports USB-MIDI compliant devices. USB Hubs are not supported!

No not a simple version of that unfortunately, the midi1 is aimed at iOS devices and is basically a USB to midi from what I can tell

Just checked the iconnectivity site and it doesn’t.
Only the mio 4 / iconnect 4 or higher support USB host mode

Will it be possible once the digitakt firmware upgrade makes it an audio interface?

If not, is there any point in buying a custom usb mini b (op-1) to usb b (DT) cable?

The two odd ball connectors aren’t common enough to find and I’m looking into buying a custom made cable, if it will work.

No, you will be able to record the OP-1 audio through Digitakt in stereo once Overbridge is released, but for midi you need a MIDI-USB host. I use the Kenton one which works well for sequencing it, but when I sync them the OP-1 tempo jumps all over the place and the tape markers keep moving.

That’s too bad. Have you tried others like the PISound (https://blokas.io)?

Yeah saw that, but went with the Kenton as wanted the easiest option.

I’m guessing it’s something to do with the type of clock Digitakt puts out, but it makes syncing with the OP-1 tape difficult.
