Version 1.20 of the firmware fixes I think every bug I was having issues with, adds some features I was hoping for and adds some stuff I really didn’t think the Digitakt mk1 would get.
I think this is your answer. Elektron very much have not abandoned this machine.
It’s a shame they couldn’t quite get it out the door in time for the 3rd birthday, but I’m glad they waited and did the necessary quality control.
Newest update is a gamechanger IMO… I’m sure they have more tricks up their sleeve too. I do wish they were a bit more transparent and forward about development tho.
Ok…not sure I understand what you’re saying though. Does this new update make it not be the thing you bought it for in the first place? Does it function differently now for your workflow than it did when you bought it? Or does it still work and act just like when you bought it, but with just new functionality added to it? I mean, if you want it to be just like when you bought it, then just don’t use the new things, yes? Or, just don’t upgrade the firmware. Just use the firmware that was on it when you bought it, yes?
The way I look at it is, you get something and use it for what you bought it for originally…and if some time down the line they put in new functionality simply through a firmware update, that’s just icing on the cake, but icing you don’t even have to use if you don’t want to. Or am I missing something here?
I don’t know if you’re trolling me as your statement and questions are very trollish.
This update removes nothing from how it functioned at release… only improves it. It’s massively improved since release. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t great fun at release!
At the time I bought it I had no further expectations of functionality. Does that mean with the updates and new features that didn’t disable existing features, it’s no longer useful for what I bought it for? Okay. Pretty sure you’re trolling me now.
Bottom line - when I bought it I got it for what it was, not what I expected it to be at some arbitrary point in the future. Updates make it way more fun! I’ve always jumped on the updates. But I didn’t go in expecting any of that. Happy to have the extra icing, and will gladly smear it across my palate.
No, no, please don’t misunderstand me. I’m genuinely curious to know if this update does something that takes away from your original intent. I honestly don’t know and was wanting to know. I don’t mean to come across as trollish at all and I apologize if my tone came across as that.
I’ll admit… “My original intent” with a piece of gear is hard to contextualize several years later. These boxes tend to show you things you’d never intend. However, I never buy something with imaginary intentions.
I read your first post about it as “I didn’t buy the Digitakt expecting it to get feature X in the future”. For example, if one buys it and is dissatisfied because Elektron didn’t patch in stereo samples or slicing, they only have themselves to blame.
Overbridge might be an exception though, since it was advertised at launch but didn’t arrive until years later.
