Digitakt 2 NEI ! and PRE!

I’m trying to use a combination of NEI, PRE, and pattern trigs to trigger a second pattern after playing 16 steps (for now).

The setup is as follows: On track 1, the kick trigs are set to PRE, with a triggerless trig on step 16 to enable the kicks. When I start the track, it plays through all steps initially (without triggering kicks), then once it hits step 16, this triggers the kicks to start playing.

On track 2, the snare trigs are set to PRE, with a trigger less trig on step 15 set to NEI.

When the kicks get triggered, they play once, and then the snares come in on the next pass.

I apply the same technique to two more tracks, Toms and clap and it seem to work fine like a good chaining pattern that evolves.

Issue
By the time I reach track 5, the PRE condition stops functioning entirely, I can no longer get PRE or NEI to behave as expected. At the start of the loop, during the kick phase, track 5 begins playing randomly even though it should only trigger when its neighbouring track (track 4) has been activated Using NEI. Sometimes it plays unexpectedly, then goes silent, then works again — or PRE just fails outright and plays the sounds even though they are set to PRE. In some cases, it even seems to behave like an inverted PRE condition.

It’s becoming increasingly unpredictable and difficult to troubleshoot. The logic works fine for the first four tracks, but breaks down by the fifth, which makes me wonder if there’s a bug or a limitation in how many conditional triggers (PRE + NEI) can be stacked or chained. Has anyone else run into this?
