So I am contemplating the Digitakt 2, but wondered as I have no Audio interface for my Mac, can I use it to record ‘live’ by some means with the USB output?
I did hear about Overbridge, but not sure if thats been updated for v2 Digitakt?
Could a USB connection from Digitakt to the Macbook, record a stereo ‘live’ output if I jam on the Digitakt 2, without using a L/R physical output from Digi to an Audio interface?
Secondly, following from above, could the USB connection from Digitakt to the Macbook, allow audio to be streamed from Macbook to Digitakt, to some external speakers, sort of like using the Digi as an Audio interface for the Mac, playing audio ‘through’ it ?
Yes, you can do these things. You don’t need Overbridge for this, only class-compliant USB audio, and the external inputs on DT. I’m not sure why you need DT for the second situation, though.
The Digitakt II (as most newer Elektrons) is a class compliant audio interface, which means it doesn’t need any driver on your OS to work. It allows output from your DT to be recorded on your computer and a stereo USB stream back to your Digitakt for regular playback of audio, or as input for sampling on the Digitakt II. Gain settings for USB are also adjustable.
Great thank you.
So the USB connection to my Mac will allow a live jam on the Digitakt to be recorded exactly the same as a stereo audio left right cable would into an interface via audio
Correct, digitakt is also an audio interface as evidenced by the fact that you can plug external synths or other sound source into the R/L analog inputs and those can be streamed to record in your daw through the DT2. You can do that either independently (a la audio interface) or you can do it along with your jam.
So (example) you have a synth, you are sequencing it with dt2, you want to record it into your jam and into the computer so you plug the audio out of the synth into the dt2 inputs and then in the project, turn up the input volume on the mixer. Now you can hear your synth and anything you hear in your headphones can be recorded over USB into the computer.
So if I have this right, could you use the DT2 to record on the inputs with the L/R inputs, as an audio interface, could you add the DT2 compressor or effects/filter? Then record this directly into your DAW?
(Without using the sampling in the DT2) so it could be used as an Audio Interface but with effects?
Yes, correct. The inputs have their own volume and effects levels and the compressor is the end of the line for anything you route into it. No sampling involved unless you want to sample into the project first, but that’s a choice not a requirement.
I’ve got my DT connected to my Macbook and selected as input. As output I want to use my MB speakers, since I don’t have any other speakers yet. But no sound. Is this a possible setup, or am I missing something?
