Just sold my ak after 5 or so not so productive years. Never fully got down with the dullness of the screen. I plan to immediately pump the cash into an a4 mk2.
I’ll share a different perspective.
I got a ridiculous, too-good-to-be-true deal on a perfect condition MKi.
I set it side by side with the MKii and ended up selling the MKii to fund some other stuff.
I don’t miss a thing. The MKi does everything for me the MKii did.
I’d say if it’s a “first” Elektron machine or you really need the individual outs, go for the MKii, it might be slightly easier to get around on, and the screen is better.
But, if you’re already familiar, save a few bucks and get the MKi, it’s totally fine.
*As far as the CV individual outs, that’s not a problem if you have a couple of trs y cables and you can solder at all, you can solve that in 15min.
I heard that the sound of the Analog Four MK1 and MK2 is slightly different. Is that actually true? If so, I assume the OS is the same, so are some of the hardware parts different ?
The distortion circuit is different.
And the initial Setting of the Filters leading to some to believe that they sound differently iirc.
MK II has two different implementations of filter overdrive! One is a copy of the original and the other one is new. The overdrive can be found on the filter page (I think). It’s at 0 by default and turning it into the negative range will use the old implementation and vice versa. I think that’s the main reason why porting patches from MK I to MK II will sound a bit different.
i have two mk1, you’ll have to pry them from my cold dead hands to get me to part with them
