Dead (70s) drum sound pack

Hello, all. I’m curious if anyone has ever found a sound pack that had dead 70’s type drums in it.

I think these are really good: https://www.circlesdrumsamples.com

I’ve seen some samples that are 70s dead / James Murphy style recorded, but since this thread is re: Digitone are you speaking of sound design for the Digitone II?

I’d like to eventually get to a point where I can design my own dead drums on Digitone 2, but since I’m new to this, I thought I’d go the sound pack route for now.

Apologies - jumped the gun here without realising it was about Digitone! :grimacing:

These look like straight samples. I have a good set of dead drum samples, but as I understand it, you can’t use samples with Digitone. Is it possible to convert samples to sysex for Digitone? In meantime, I’m planning to use Digitone with iPad and koala or maybe a sample box like blackbox or maybe aira p-6.

No.

If you’d like to check out the ones I have, they’re from Jake Reed. He shows how he creates these sounds on his YouTube channel. Pretty great. I have the super dead packs.

Me too cause I bought them !
1975 is my birth year.

So what does “dead” means in that context ?
Isolated ?
Dry ?

Muffled, dry, dampened, muted, etc.

What happens to an acoustic drum when you stop it resonating, you get a very short decay sound, with not much resonance, not much sustain, and not much high frequency.

Dry and tight

Yeah, less ringing out.

What others have said, dry, muted, isolated, tighter. They didn’t let much much room sound in.

Example of dead drum sound:

In stark comparison to something like this, which is more alive, and has a lot of room sound:

Ok thanks all. I guess there is also dynamic processing on dead drums…

I suppose these drums aren’t dead :

Never mind dynamic processing. There’s dynamic playing first.

(Or there is if the drummer is any good)

I thought OP is searching for Grateful Dead style drums. :slightly_smiling_face:

And sound engineer stuff !
Acoustic treatment, mic placements, materials inside the bass drum…

At least the programming aspects would be a lot easier than physical limitations

I’d absolutely be interested in the sound of such a sound bank, funk and disco rule, so much easier to arrange around crisp drum hits.

Those drums are more alive than I am right now!

Don’t you want to be a goal keeper after that ?
You’d surely feel more alive.
