Dawless setup with Rytm, A4, dreadbox typhon, JU-06A: tips for the brain?

Hi Guys and Gals!

So I have a Rytm, Analog four, dreadbox typhon, and JU-06a
also a mixer (mackie)

I’d like to connect them all, in a dawless setup, and be able to sequence them, in sync.

what is your recommendation for how to do this;

  • i know the Rytm and A4 have internal sequencers ofcourse, so these can easily be linked
  • so I need something to sequence the other two, and maybe send start / stop to the rytm/a4? so I’d need another brain/sequencer, am I right?

If so, what are affordable / good recommendations for this setup?
Octactrack: ofcourse, but expensive and learning curve!!!

Keystep pro? squarp pyramid? what do you think!!

use the analog four as master, use its fx track to sequence the ju06a and its cv track to sequence the typhon. Both via midi.
Send start/stop and cc to the rytm via midi

Only thing you need is a midi hub, but not another device :+1:

Yep. So better start learning it sooner rather than later :wink: The Arranger is v cool, as is the midi arp.

You don’t need anything more.

For example, you could connect:

  • AR MIDI Out to AF MIDI In,
  • AF MIDI Out to JU-06A MIDI In,
  • AF MIDI Thru to Typhon MIDI In,

which would enable you to use:

  • AR as the transmitter of clock and transport,
  • AR to sequence Typhon,
  • AF to sequence JU-06A,

without any additional hardware purchases.

Both the Typhon and the JU-06A have internal sequencers.

If you want to buy an additional hardware sequencer, you need to think about what kind of features you want:

  • step sequencing?
  • linear sequencing?
  • number of patterns, tracks etc?

Thank you, this will keep me entertained for quite a while as I learn everything. Then, eventually, I’ve I master and love the elektron world, I will probably eventually end up with an octatrack haha!

I use the digitakt as the brains for my setup,

It’s powerful for the amount of midi channels you can manipulate

I use this one

All your machines have internal sequencer. If you want to use an elektron to sequence typhon and ju you have enough midi channels available on A4 and/or AR. So for this task, there is really no need for another sequencer for now

Thanks EBK, the digitakt is nice ofcourse, but seems like ‘overkill’ to buy that when already owning a RYTM

thanks Peter! good option aswell. Which option is better? yours or unifono’s suggestion to use A4 as master and use the fx and cv track to sequence both typhon/ju-06a?

aren’t the midi sequencing options of the A4 better than the RYTM? or are they identical?

I recommend that you actually try it out for yourself, given that have all the gear already.

on the rytm you loose one or two of your potential drum tracks.
On the A4, you can use the fx track, which I assume is often not in use, and the cv track, which is either not used otherwise in your case

Im running a JU-06a, minilogue, SE-02, Strymon Bigsky, and analog four from it. I think Itll be perfect for what you need but slightly redundant for your current setup. Im looking to get an AR too so will figure this out in a month or so ahaha.

Thanks, to be honest, Im still waiting for the A4 and typhon!
so this is me mentally preparing, and thanking you for your help!

you convinced me, going to go for this.
ordered the midi solutions midi box.

so If I understand correctly, my battle plan will be:

  • Analog four midi out, to the midi thru box. and from that, midi outs to rytm, typhon, and ju-06a

correct?
what should my midi / channel settings be on the analog four?

thank you so much for saving me headache and delivering me a lot of fun in the near future!
(work as a doctor in the hospital normally, crazy times, so very busy and little time for elaborate manuals!).

that‘s what I would do, correct.
Check midi out settings for analog four tracks in the manual. Set ju06a midi channel to respective channel of one of the A4 tracks (e.g. fx track) and the typhon to the other one (e.g. cv track)
Shoud be easy to figure out.

Good luck. I only can try to imagine how crazy these times are for a doctor. Stay healthy

I also use my A4 as the real master (sending the original clock), but in practise the rest of the mastering (controlling my other synths via Midi) is done by Digitakt. So basically the Digitakt is the real ‘organiser’, only listening to the A4 for Clock (and the song mode of the A4). If it wasn’t for the song mode, I would probably make the Digitakt the overall master (but DT has no song mode).
