I’m experiencing some strange behavior with one of the track/trig LEDs. On track 12, the LED is dark blue, and I have no idea how to get rid of it. It’s not muted in either track or pattern mode. It’s always flashing blue, and when I select a pattern on track 12, the LED turns off completely.
In global mutes it does turn green though, but in pattern mutes it stays dark blue.
I even created a new project, but the behaviour is the same. Has anyone else run into a similar issue? Could it be a setting I’ve overlooked?
Check the behavior in test mode by starting the machine with the func button held down. When the startup menu appears, release func. Follow the prompts to run the error test. When it finishes, start pressing random buttons to initiate the keys test and on the screen, it will say which key you’ve pressed.
When you press trig 1 and 2 the screen will go fully dark or become completely lit. This is normal, it’s testing for problems with individual pixels.
Trigs 3 4 and 5 respectively should light all of the LED lights under all the buttons in the R G B colors, one color group per each of those trigs. This is a test to see if there’s an issue with any of the various colors that the bulbs are capable of producing.
Holding the 3 trigs down together and it should light all buttons with white LEDs.
If they perform as intended in test mode, then the problem is a setting. I don’t have Digitone 2 but I would guess you have something like the euclidian sequencer enabled on that track. I can’t confirm the behavior though and I don’t know if that’s how it looks but I would guess something like that is the case and it’s reminding you of that.
Let us know your results in test mode. If you can’t figure it out, I’ll pull up the manual and read it to see what you’re missing when you look at it.
Oh wow, didn`t know this test mode exists, thanks a lot.
I tested and it looks like the red led is not working
I am really not lucky lately. I have recently sent in the digitone 2 because of a lose power connection . That has been fixed, but it seems it came back with a broken led.
I could probably try a factory reset? Will that remove songs and sounds?
You could try but I think if the LED has actually physically gone bad (ie one of the color elements has stopped working) software reset won’t have any impact. You could try this though. Definitely do a complete backup first.
I think that in this case, unfortunately, it’s best to contact elektron. This is certainly covered by the warranty, but it is indeed inconvenient.
If you’re very brave you could open the machine and reseat the PCB connector cables, just in case one of them is misaligned, but for this type of issue, 99 times out of 100 it indicates hardware failure.
You said it was blinking though, is that trig blinking independently of the sequencer’s operation status?
If you’ve never tried to do a backup, I can find you a walkthrough on how to do it, but it’s fairly simple to figure out using the transfer app.
Thanks a lot for your help on this.
Since it’s still under warranty, I’ll probably better not open it.
Oh no, sorry its not blinking, its just blue basically or I guess when it should be red its just off in general. Kind of makes sense now to me.
I think backup is fine, I actually did that already before sending it for the lose power connection issue. But will probably do it again.
It’s ok, I don’t mind helping. Unfortunately, I am fairly certain that this is a hardware failure and will require a physical repair. Start the ticket process through your elektron.se account so you can document the issue and get the process underway.
I’m curious about their response time currently with superbooth so close at hand, so let us know when they’ve replied to your support ticket, so we know if they’re responding to emails.
The only good news here is that you haven’t done anything wrong, this could not be attributed to any fault of the user.
Make sure the Euclidian sequencer isn’t engaged; I think I read in the manual that euclidian sequencer makes blue trigs, but I’d have to pull it up and read it again and obviously you are capable of doing that yourself so if you go into a new project and it’s still blue, or if you go into test mode and that particular trig doesn’t light up correctly during the keys test (like when you press trigs 3 - 4 - 5 and all the RGB colors are supposed to light to test for LED problems), then it probably needs to be physically repaired under warranty.
You could try basic stuff like power cycling the device or a different PSU, but it’s probably not going to help, just being honest.
A person could buy the button for about 5 dollars and pay them $13 to ship the button to you and then fix it yourself, if you’re proficient with desoldering / solering, but another random guy with 2 bad trig LEDs got quoted $50 for an out of warranty repair like a week ago so that’s not too bad.
If you’re under warranty I wouldn’t even question it. I’d just send it in and let them take care of it for free.
Sorry, my answer is probably a bit too late. But yes, the issue has been resolved, I sent the unit to Elektron, and they fixed it. With the warranty still active, I wasn’t brave enough to change the LED on my own .
