Damaged OT

Bonjour à tous !

First, as a proud owner of an OT, an A4 and now an Analog Keys, i really want to thank everybody at Elektron for the wonderful instruments you conceive and produce.

I really appreciate the creative magic that happens each time I lay my hands on my Elektron machines !

Poor me… I’ve recently faced sadness and disappointment when discovering that my OT is enduring technical problems…

As I switch it on, all leds stay unlit and the screen remains blank… A friend of mine was nice enough to lend his own OT power supply, just in case, but this was not the solution…

I’ve joined a (poor) picture of the screen.

Has any other Elektron afficionado faced the same issue ???

Is there any way this could be fixed ???

Thanks for any useful information.

If it is like the A4 then the whole lid of the Octatrack box, on which all the buttons and screen are mounted, is connected to the main circuit board on the bottom of the box by 1 or 2 wires which supply power and signal to the lid.

It is possible one of those wires has become disconnected, so this might be a simple fix.

I recently had exactly the same problem. See this thread for details:

I suspect that a single lead was loose inside the Octatrack, but I didn’t want to void the warranty by opening it up myself.

sorry to hear that. did you perform an OS update just before or change the cf card or anything ?

try booting in diagnostic mode to see if it shows any errors and then do an empty reset as described in this thread. (seems like you might be in good company as it was richard devine that had the same thing happen after an os update some time back)

if that doesn’t help email elektron support. good luck

Thanks, guys !

Looks like I’m in deep sh#t…

Diagnostic Mode doesn’t work…

I’ve emailed Elektron but my OT is not registered so I’m not sure warranty will do…

Damned !

For the 3 year warranty you just need the orginal invoice to proof the date of purchase.

Hope you get it fixed, good luck.

I have started to experience this issue with my 4 month old octa. If I turn the power off/on eventual it properly boots but I fear if unaddressed it will worsen. I opened a support ticket today.

Sent my OT to support service in Sweden on April 14th…

No news from Elektron since then…

Looks like there’s nobody up there to answer my mails…

I don’t even know if they have actually received the machine…

Does anyone elses Octatrack reeek of Electricity. It’s a nice smell but I think it’s getting stronger and worry slightly…

I’m having the exact same problem. I sent it off last year to get fixed because the graphics would become garbled and then when I booted up I would have the same blank screen that your having. The technician couldn’t find a problem with it and sent it back to me? I changed power outlets and it seemed to have fixed it until last week when it started happening again. The only way I could fix it was reformatting the Sd card which fixed it for a short time until it boots up again blank? I’ve tried 2 different cards with the same result so I’m thinking maybe a pin in the card reader in the OT is bent which corrupts the boot in some way. Unfortunately I don’t want to send it off again because last time it didn’t help. In one instance when it booted blank I removed the card and reinserted the card a few times after turning it off and it booted fine.

I’m getting mine back from a similar problem this week. After some comedy of errors on getting there it ended up in LA and they did some work on it.

The invoice I got said it was a pcb cable repair, fwiw. If you’re in the 3 year window and have your invoice or can get it, it will still cover it.

As I mentioned above, mine had the blank screen problem (no intermittent problems beforehand like yours), and the reported fix was by replacing a cable (probably from the power supply to the main board). It may not be the CF card that is causing the problem here. Does your Octatrack boot into Demo Mode (without the CF card) OK?
When you sent it away before, did you send it to Elektron?

Did you get a tracking number from the shipping company that you used to send the OT?
It seems like Elektron is incredibly busy right now, so it would not be a surprise if the repair took a little longer than usual. Did you have a support ticket number that would enable you to check whether they have recorded any progress with the repair?
I hope that they will get back to you very soon.

I’m in Australia so it went to a Technician here that Elektron set up for me to send to. They seemed pretty good and the technician called me saying he couldn’t find anything wrong and wanting to know why I had sent it in. When the screen starts booting up blank I can’t get into demo mode or test mode as not only there is no graphics on the screen but it also doesn’t register any triggers to press 2 etc. Reformatting the CF card fixes the problem until it just randomly decides to not boot again and there was that time where I removed and inserted the cf card a few times until it booted again.
If it keeps doing it I’ll have to send it off again and I’ll ad a note about the cables that yourself and other people have been getting replaced and hopefully it will point him in the right direction. It should just be in warranty but if not I may have to open it up myself to have a bit of a look, I’m not an electrician but my day job is at a cable manufacturing factory hand making cables. The internal cable that you mention is the best possible cause I have heard so far thanks.
