the macbeth is really high pitch! playing the lowest octave on the A4 should be really low pitch, right? it isnt even bassline… everything above C5 is unusable
tbh - i’ve never had this issue and i wrongly assumed that Elektron would allow the range that’s permissible via midi (i.e. C-2) - not that helpful if the macbeth is on the high side
.
if you use 0v for something nearer the mid point (appx C3) you ought to be in the ball park
First the Analog Four starts its octaves from 0 and not -2. This is not a standard and a lot of manufacturers/notators choose one or the other.
Second, many (not all) eurorack oscillators are calibrated to C5 at 0V and 1v/oct since this is how Doepfer started to do it. Other formats and modules are calibrated differently. When a lower note than C5 is pressed the A4 outputs a negative voltage. Some oscillators(usually digital modules) only reads positive voltage but I’m pretty sure the Macbeth do read negative voltages.
Now the cool thing with the A4 that is kind of unique is that it’s open for you to set up with any kind v/oct calibration and that you can remove any linear or offset error in your system (A4 + Voltage controlled oscillator). Remember that CV is just a reference of relation between notes and not note information.
its weird, if i put my rene sequencer up against the A4,
the rene never goes out of tune when playing low and high notes with the macbeth and the A4 goes out of tune badly when going up the octaves. and if i correct the high notes then the range is wrong and the lower notes are out.
not sure whats going on there. I can handle C5 being 0V, its the going out of tune bit im stumped on now
I must admit i thought it would be easy and it confused me so i went back to just using the rene
Im sure i will figure it out - the macbeth has been left on such a badass patch. its an amazing syth for acid bass - but i need to use it in a controlled song way! would be a shame to lose it now ive nailed the sound
