Talking about publishing this Song, I’m starting to feel uncomfortable to release it as I’m using Samples from Patrick Watson Melody Noir. I never use Samples in my Songs that I release (all my Sounds are created from synthesis) so this is new to me. Any thoughts?
great rhythm on that alt version, instant head bobbing
moan alert
i take issue with this thread being used as a marketing tool. it perpetuates to others that it is fine to do this.
A soundcloud/youtube/other external link really isn’t in the spirit of the thread, there;s a few specific
nauts threads for these kinda things.
especially mastered/premier pro edited slick videos that are so far from a current sound…
Main reason I enjoy it so much is when it functions as a no spam no frills rough draft mp3 audio (sounds) playlist of stuff people have been making that day (current).
i’m not distracted by anything else.
A bit of info about what gear was used, processes, bpm whtever etc is great.
A personal reason i think this should be the recognised format is that i enjoy selecting a random number between 1-10,000 and discovering something new and surprising i missed first time around.
links die ultimately so aren’t as permanent as an uploaded file.
looking at likes alone people listen/interact more with mp3 uploads than links/embeds.
It’s pretty decent that elektron/elektronauts host these files for free in truth.
Sorry to be a precious old man whinger but i’d prefer next current sounds to be pure audible treats, which i know isn’t realistic to maintain.
I don’t know why i’m raising this now anyway with the thread so close to closure, it’s been said a few times before.
Probably in the hopes there can be a some clearer criteria for sharing in the next one.
i’ll probably delete this, but was feeling cute.
Agreed. I much prefer listening via the mp3 player with no waveform display or video.
Yep. I hardly ever listen to the other ones. (Especially those asking me to subscribe
)
Should have saved this for post 10,000.
Guilty! I was wondering , having posted SoundCloud links, but actually agree with you. Ironic!
I’ll be posting these somewhere else and share shorter sounds here.
I have to agree, what i really want to hear here is the sounds that 'naughts have not polished for a wider audience, seems to me it should be a place for non precious, perhaps exploratory sounds, but I am old so what do i know…
I will say that I don’t personally mind the SoundCloud links because the embedded mp3 player gives my phone trouble fairly often and I catch up on this thread on the couch in the morning. I do think that the spirit of this thread is important though, it’s really helped me be less precious about sharing my work and I’d love to see it stay that way. But I’m a very latecomer just recently starting to participate, so what the hell do I know.
Are you feeling some sort of ethical dilemma about sampling or worrying about licensing stuff?
If you are worried about licensing stuff, I’ve released loads of stuff with samples on bandcamp and Spotify, I’ve never cleared anything, but I also have no commercial success of any kind and no one who can afford a lawyer has ever listened to my music. If you are anticipating making any significant amount of money from this release talking to a lawyer about samples is probably a good idea.
If you’re feeling weird about using samples as an artist, that’s a personal decision and I don’t think there’s a universal answer, I’m always interested in having those kinds of arts conversations but that’s probably outside of the scope of this thread.
soundcloud links are the ones that least trouble me i must admit
I think the fact that your capitalized Songs, Sounds, and Samples, but not synthesis is a Subliminal Sign you might actually prefer Sampling ![]()
I post SoundCloud links because they don’t give me problems with the size of the file plus it’s where I upload my jam tracks at the moment to keep track of them. I normally only spend a short time on the tracks I post because I treat them as scratch tracks that I’m not going to do any more work on.
True. I did link Soundcloud files due to the length of the Track but now, I use an mp3 converter other than 320 (I don’t know why Ableton Live doesn’t have the option of different bit rate formats or maybe it has the option?).
It’s about licensing but also more about respecting the work of the original Artist. My plan was to contact the Artist (or the one representing the Artist) and see what he thinks about this.
that post is tragically turning what should’ve been the golden twilight age of current sounds 1 into reflective regret about what it could/should have been… the next generation will do better.
someone post some distorto drone or syntaktic drumsynths pronto!
I don’t mind soundcloud next to plain mp3s as direct upload. Actually it has been often very nice to see/hear more of someone’s sounds/music outside of this realm, too.
However I fully agree there’s no point in this thread for videos, insta, […] and also not for full tracks presented in shiny perfection. (only exception: @waftlord’s)
Fairly agree, I used Soundcloud to relieve Elektronauts and because it is integrated, easy and without the need to go elsewhere…
I don’t think I did this in a “promotional” spirit, but I understand the remark.
The thread your last track does not suit me since what I post is only a raw recording without fx or mastering.
Maybe create a “half-finished track” thread?
A thread is limited to 10000 posts?
Yeah but all Tracks from @waftlord sound like this. ![]()
let me refer to exhibit A @Tchu
Wait, I’ll add that to my reply above.
