Creative delay/looping iOS apps

I‘ve added a modeller to my guitar pedalboard and have thus a class compliant audio interface at hand that I could use to mangle my guitar signal with iPad/iPhone apps. One additional advantage would be to hopefully cure me of any GAS I might have for additional delay/looping/granular pedals (like the new CBA Habit).

Any recommendations for good iOS apps for creative delays, SOS looping, granular sounds and Frippertronics? I already use and really like Borderlands Granular.

The new Loopy Pro, BLEASS Granulator, there are tons of delays - FabFilter, BLEASS, Rymdigare, AU3FXDUB, Tape Pro…

Gauss has got Frippertronics written all over it as far as looping and sound-on-sound stuff goes. It’s beautiful.

As for delay - it depends what you want. As SF said, there are loads of them. Personally I like the RE-1 as its the closest to an RE-201 we’ve got in iOS at present, but that might not be the sound you’re looking for. TB Reelbus is another one I use a lot. They’re both pretty typical (but nice) tape delay sims. If you want something more extreme/unusual maybe go with something like Dedalus

I’ve been a longtime Quantiloop user - I connect it to my pedalboard via a class compliant interface in the effects loop of my amp. I find Quantiloop to be a lot closer to a ‘real’ looper pedal than software like Loopy, which is a lot more abstract. My guitar brain finds this far easier to manage.

Quantiloop supports four independent loops, each with overdubs and syncing. Extensive midi support as well and can host AUv3 plugins. This means I can use it for all looping requirements as well as all post-gain effects (e.g. Blackhole, Multitap etc). Also has Ableton Link support.

Yes, I agree Quantiloop Pro is another great option, and a very familiar interface for guitarists. another great looper is Audiokit L7. Enso Looper is worth a look. One Loop by Caelum Audio is a good basic choice. If you have KORG Gadget, the Zurich recorder can be a good recorder/looper. Koala ampler could be a good sketching device. Beatmaker/Cubasis/Garageband can also be good recording/Sketching/Production environments.

Many, many good options.

There are just too many options, but here is my shortlist of what use a lot day to day.

LoopyPro - best Looper anywhere.
Other Desert Cities - fantastic Delay and Reverb.
Popsicle FX - cool new multiFX auv3 effect
Gauss - must have looper.
DubStation 2 - great Delay.
MixBox - everything you could possible want in an effects rig.
Drambo - your OctaTrack on iOS.
AUM - best multitrack router on iOS to setup your rig in so many flexible ways.

The fact that most of these cost next to nothing, you’ll have all the effects on iOS in no time

Thanks so much for the recommendations - will look into those. One other question: is there an app for iOS that provides a modular environment to quickly build up custom delays/loopers. So similar to the Empress Zoia where it‘s possible to approximate the functionality of pedals like Blooper, Habit etc.?

Modley might get you there:

AUM is a great place to wire up whatever you want, combining various effects and routing it however you see fit.

I liked creating loop buffers to use as an improvised delay effect when using Loopy HD on iOS. It was especially useful and fun when mapped to a Faderfox UC4 to have control over the decay time / “feedback”. I haven’t figured out how to do this using the new Loopy Pro, yet.

That workflow sounds excellent. I don’t suppose you made any videos of it? As a UC4 owner, I’d be really interested to see how people are using them within iOS environments

I don’t have videos of that in action, sorry.

Oh, this reminds me, MidiFighter Twister may also be interesting to use with Loopy Pro. I read that the ring of LEDs update along with the playback position of a given loop. I have yet to test that out…

I like just monitoring the shite phone mic through SpaceFields with headphones, you can have fun everywhere then

Flashbacks to sp404 batteries and reverb walking about the place :hugs:
