CR8 Sampler

Anybody else loving this thing!?

It’s a dream for digital sound design.

If Digitakt had these modulator functions and playback algorithms it would probably be worth double its price.

And right now CR8 is $10. I use Renoise which is inherently a sampler but this thing is just plain FUN and totally worth having for the peculiar digital character it has and an unbeatable ITB workflow with samples using Cosmos.

Sorry, I swear I don’t work for Waves. I just feel like this thing is totally underestimated so far.

Edit:

I can’t emphasize enough the wonderfully strange and surprising digital character these algorithms can lead to, if you like glitchy dirty bizarre digital artifacts and digging into digital sound and movement on an infinitesimal level and pulling out all the idiosyncratic details then this software is a dream. Unbeatable for quickly attaining unique textures and timbres.

Is it much better than Ableton’s Simpler?

I don’t really use ableton, but CR8 can also detect musical key and bpm automatically, and has specialized playback algorithms, can slice, key map, stack 8 layers, modulate with sequencers, envelopes and lfo which can all be warped and modulated themselves, it can cross fade and loop for sustain, it does a lot but it’s all wrapped up nicely in a sleek and easy to use package and it’s just really intuitive. For me, there is absolutely nothing intuitive about Ableton, it’s like it’s cryptic on purpose or something.

Also I have a particular problem with possessing a massive sample library because sometimes I’ll just hunt free samples in order to redirect GAS. And the Cosmos sample organizer leverages this massive library into something fun and surprising instead of manually hunting and clicking through endless folders. It’s all just really fun and a really great workflow.

Beat magazine have done a collaboration with Waves and are offering a big expansion for CR8 for free (of course the files will work elsewhere too).

Perfect time to use Hide My Email feature of iCloud for just these kind of Promos :facepunch:t3:

Saw it yesterday during a livestream. You could do some interesting chops with it.

This looks interesting, somewhere between FieldScaper iOS and Simpler. Will def be trying it out.

Thanks for posting about this @williohm! We may have been separated at birth. I too use Renoise and hunt free samples to stave off the gas. I was looking in that sample manager thread and decided I’d give Cosmos a go. Then on the waves’ page I noticed them pushing CR8. The demo videos seemed interesting enough but I thought I’d check what people were saying here since you guys know everything. I’m definitely going to give this a try.
