Cool video on synthesis

Just watched this, and really enjoyed it… There’s quite a few Elektron’s in it too

Best regards,

Haha, Verbos firing shots like nobody‘s business.
Interesting watch, especially all the thoughts about stagnation (?) seemed to be a common thread, sign of the times I suppose.

Pretty narrow group of boutique eurorack builders and European artists at trade show have opinions.

Mostly nerd porn and trendspotting.

Quite interesting, and many of the points could be from the last 20 years, I have heard it all before, but thats cool.

Difficult to predict where things are headed, but I think it will be as ever, evolutionary rather than revolutionary, and I suspect in another 20 years much of the same stuff will be repeated.

Stuff like MPE personally bores me, so does a haptic touch screen, so does AI composition, and I don’t really think any of those will be of much benefit to me. I’m more interested in interface refinement and usability which for years now have largely remained stagnant, with very few exceptions.

One simple example is modular synthesis, the focus has been on sound, features, etc, no one has yet taken on the task of eliminating the most obvious barrier to usability - patch cables. The technology exists to do so, it would require the adoption of a standard (like midi, but obviously not midi) and it could be something that is backwards compatible too.

For me the most exciting thing will be when technology becomes so reliable that it feels like a traditional tool, for example you can own a hammer for 50 years and it will work and be predictable in use, it won’t refuse to work because it needs an update, or be incompatible with the nail, etc. I don’t ever think this will happen though, at least in our lifetimes.

sadly - looking at this video - the future of electronic music doesn’t really seem to include any women. Poor show.

Except the woman wearing the ‘I’m not Erica’ tshirt.

Are you an instrumentalist though, Daren?

See, a lot of people who are otherwise accomplished electronic music artists (whatever that encapsulates) are decidedly not musicians. For people like myself, on the other hand, who are accomplished musicians (in the traditional sense of the word), MPE is a godsend.

Cheers!

We’ve had a lengthy discuss about this here on these forums… Though last time the thread got closed down.

Made my day

Fair point. No I’m not an instrumentalist, but I definitely can see the appeal of it for those that are, I should have said “doesn’t interest me personally”.

Slightly OT: Stimming´s reviews are a pleasure to watch.
