As always i find myself like an idiot when it comes to MIDI.
I have a Launchkey Mini MKIII going thru a computer (thanks to a lack of 3.5mm adapter) to the Midi In of the OT. Auto channel is 13.
My goal is at first to be able to mute/unmute Midi tracks. Any CC i send to the OT gives me a note.
The mapping chart in the appendix p.137 tells me
C3 (48) to play Midi track 1
C#3 (49) to play Midi track 2
In practice, when i go to the website to map the Launchkey Mini i get C3 (60) which plays me a C note on midi track 1
and C#3 (61) which plays me a C# note on midi track 1
I don’t get why the numbers in ( ) are different and if i am doing wrong sending these CCs.
Someone in Elektronauts mentioned CC #112-119 for Midi tracks which only change the pitch.
Should i send on different channel than auto channel? I don’t think it’s possible to send on different channels for different pads, it is a global setting for all the pads if i’m correct.
Someone has a light?
PS: admins feel free to move the thread if you think it belongs more to Other Gear.
Use note numbers, a C3 on one device can be a C2, C3, C5 etc. on another device. There is no standard.
You can use the autochannel to control the active track or if you set midi channels for audio tracks, you can send midi messages on these midi channels to control parameters on different tracks from one controller.
You mean i should mind the number between ( ) ?
So 60, 61, …
So it’s not possible to control different midi channels via the auto channel?
For now i would like to control midi channels but i understand well i’d need to e able to send on different MIDI channels (which the Launchkey seems to be unable to do).
Basically i was looking at different controllers and remembered i had the launchkey in a corner taking dust. I kind of remind why it was put aside…
I don’t have an OT but I have a Launchkey Mini mk3. I don’t think you can configure the pads to send CC. If you use the Quick Note Mute mapping (manual, p. 139, section C.5) and the associated MIDI map configuration, you can send notes in the range 20-27 to mute/unmute the MIDI tracks.
You could for example set audio tracks 1-8 to
midi channels 1-8 and then you’d have to configure your controller to send CC on those midi channels.
Then you could have control over parameters on all tracks from your controller.
Autochannel just gives convenient access to the active track.

Like @plragde wrote, you could use the quick note menu mapping.
Notes C0 (12) to G0 (19) mute/unmute audio tracks 1-8 and G#0 (20) to D#1 (27) mute/unmute midi tracks 1-8.
So they are sending notes and not CC’s? There are no information whatsoever in the manual of the Launchkey as it seems it’s aimed to control Ableton Live.
So it would be possible with the pads to send these notes only if the MIDI track is in Quick Mute mode.
I’m gonna try and report here.
Pads – When in Pad Custom Mode, the 8x2 grid of pads will send out Note messages. The note sent out by each pad, as well as the On/Off colour of each pad, may be edited in Components.
Knobs – In Knob Custom Mode, the knobs will send out CC messages. The CC sent out by each knob may be edited in Novation Components. This is useful for controlling hardware that has fixed CC values for each control.
So far i am quite shocked about the limitations of this controller.
It controls… nothing. They should sell it as a bonus for Ableton Live if we can’t use it freely with anything else. I can use it if i run out of lights or christmas…
I bought it specifically to control an NTS-1 when my goals were much more modest. (I love this forum but it does things to one’s goals.) I found it almost blinding at night and was pleased when the recent firmware update let me tone down the lights. The pads are respectable, at least. But I’ll be getting something a little larger and more configurable.
