Controlling Octatrack Midi Tracks With Midi Keyboard

I am trying to use my Octatrack with a midi keyboard to sequence midi gear. I am able to control the midi channel with the keyboard by using the auto channel, but I am used to the Digitakt and Digitone where the midi channels have their own midi input channels. This way I could have the midi keyboard on channel 1 always controlling the midi channel I want to use on the Octatrack. In the Octatrack midi channels assignment I only see assignment for the audio tracks. Any help would be much appreciated.

In your project settings go to MIDI -> CONTROL, and set AUDIO NOTE IN to “MAP/TRACK”. Make sure that your MIDI CHANNELS in the settings is set appropriately for each track too.

Then on each track you’ll need to set the MIDI trig mode by holding the MIDI button and pressing the up or down keys.

That little icon there indicates the current MIDI trig mode for the track. The one just to the left is the trig mode for the trig buttons on the OT. Sadly there isn’t a way to have set per-track trig modes for the buttons on the device itself currently, hopefully Elektron can add that in a firmware update…

Each track mode (standard/chromatic/slots/slices/quick mute/ delay ctrl) uses a different set of note input octave ranges that you’ll want to check in the appendix of the user manual. Here’s the notes you need to use to play a track chromatically -

Hope that helps.
