Control note lengths while playing

Hi

I got a M:S yesterday so I’m a bit new to it all.

Is it possible to play with a sample using the bottom trigs (? the sequencer step keys), and also control the length of each note while playing?

I mean something like:
While holding down a key, the sample plays until I let go of the key?

Or will a sample always play out full as it is, where length has to be controlled by decay or sample end?
I hope not.

Thanks

I don’t know MS, but on MC there is a gate mode button which turns on a sustain phase, without this it behaves as you describe, ie each hit is straight into decay after standard step length

If you hold a step down in grid edit mode you can vary the note/vel/Len there, so for single cycle looping samples that should help, but it would be odd if it didn’t have a way to record longer steps when you sustain - to do this on MC you must engage the sustain button, the note is recorded long if you hold the pad, it’s just that it isn’t audible, perhaps you need to try a looping sample and see if it behaves differently to a hit

Ah yes maybe a looped sample will stop when not played. That would make sense.
I will try that
