Hi!,
My name is Aureo, I’m new to the forums and to Elektron products in general. I wanted to buy a sampler to been able to record loops and mix them, do in and out of phase loops etc.
The idea was to use my bass guitar setup (bass, effect pedals, and my d800 amp head) and record directly to the sampler (Digitakt, model samples, Octatrack…?) and after that manipulate those samples (would be interesting to use the pedals also after the sample is running in the digitakt, but I guess that is a second step), but I have been searching for how to do so with a lot of different info and I don’t really get it. Probably the question is redundant and maybe obvious so my apologies in that case.
I have read here that I would need a reamping box and after a preamp di to connect to a Digitakt for example? would the d800 head work as a preamp or do I need to get a Mesa/Boogie Di preamp pedal?
Can someone explain to me how the chain should look like for a bass player with no experience with drum machines/samplers/di boxes in general
Or direct me to some links to figure it out.
Thanks in advance and best r,
If your amp has a line level direct out you can plug that straight into the digitakt to record. If you then want to use pedals to process digital audio it gets a bit clunky and is better suited for mixers with some sort of send-return facilities but I think it is doable to some degree. Most pedals would also need a reamp box between your output and the pedal as the a line level signal is quite different to a guitar signal in terms of level and impedance. Not that it’d hurt the pedals but they would not sound how they were designed.

Hei, I use a Tech 21 VT Bass (the tiny one), it has a cab emulator, than through my mixer and return to DT in, always minding the levels… works alright.
I will try to plug in straight from the pedal to DT and return to report you my findings.
Thanks!
This is what I could find on the Mesa Boogies website:

“A comprehensive DIRECT OUTPUT section is included in the SUBWAY’s platform so you can share your Tone with the world of recording and/or reinforcement and provides a full set of options for your D.I. needs. The standard MALE 3-Pin XLR is controlled via 3 mini toggles that determine both SOURCE (PRE or POST) and LEVEL (MIC or LINE) as well as a PIN 1 LIFT option on the XLR to aid in curing Ground noise problems when interfacing with Consoles of all types.”
So that means that the D800 amp can act as a DI for recording?
If so then, how would be the chain? bass guitar> reamp box >pedals>d800>output to Digitakt?
